So, I completed my IGCSE's last year, got horrible grades. I got 1 B, 3 C's and 1 E. I left school and took a gap year. I applied to APTECH and joined the first semester for AAIP course (ARENA ANIMATION INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME). I still have to complete my formal education (grade 11 and 12). Fast Forward to now, my gap year is ending and I need a solution. the APTECH course I'm doing is a three year advanced certificate thing, and after completing it I can get an advanced entry into the APTECH affiliated universities aka Middlesex Uni (APTECH is an institute). But, I haven't done my A-levels yet. And I don't know if the universities THAT I want to apply to like Brighton would take me on. My fear is I'll fail miserably in A levels like I did in my IGCSE's. So... help me out... dying
you should be fine, as long you got good grades in English and maths at GCSE, if you dont want to do A levels, try Btec ,look what the university is asking for as for entry requirements. All the best.

Thanks . But for some reason I'm having this gut feeling that I'm missing something or what not.

Hi ConnorMarvo2000,
I'm sure everything will turn out fine. If you are interested in doing Graphic Design, you might want to consider Ravensbourne. It is one of the top 50 design schools in the world and is based in London.
As you are worried about doing your A-levels you might want to consider doing pre-foundation or foundation courses that will prepare you for the courses you may want to take here or else where by exploring a range of different design disciplines including graphic design before starting your BA.
I have multiple friends that did Foundation course here at Ravensbourne, which helped them decide what you wanted to focus on doing. A lot of them chose Motion graphics as it is a combination of Graphic Design and Animation.
Hope this helped! If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Hello ConnorMarvo2000,
Do not worry about your grades, there is always a way! You could potentially do a Foundation Year that will allow you to have the right credits to get into year one! We have a 12 weeks intensive course: https://www.mdx.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/intensive-foundation-art-and-design or the one year one: http://www.mdx.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/foundation-year-in-visual-arts. If you pass any of the two, you are allowed to progress into year one I am currently studying at Middlesex University and I am loving my time here! There are loads of extra curricular activities, from sport teams, to societies, to jobs on campus. I met so many amazing people!
We have also really good facilities for Graphic Design including photographic studios, state-of-the-art digital printing, studio and lab computers, traditional darkrooms, workshops with technical support and an extensive art and design library. You will also have the chance to showcase your work at industry professionals during the whole degree! You can have a look at Alyin's story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqayd08PR8A, she just graduated in BA Graphic Design
Some people get on Graphic Design degree courses and other creative courses just based on their portfolio without any formal qualifications.
I have a Btec in Graphic Design not A Levels, I went onto to do an HND and this Sep I will be doing a BA top-up course.
I saw a video of someone on Youtube who did a Graphic Design apprenticeship and then when that ended they applied and got on a degree course, I don't think the apprenticeship was even a Level 3 (that is the usual requirement at degree level).
Also have you considered HE colleges? They're often not as strict with entry requirements.
Hey when I was applying for my place on a graphic design course they cared more about your portfolio and level of experience. What I did was called up various courses during clearing and got the email address of the course leaders and sent them through my portfolio as well as my grades. I got predicted a A* A* A but Brighton uni didn't like my portfolio. but second I finished my final project I reapplied through clearing showing them my new shiny portfolio and the gave me a place woo. with creative courses grades aren't everything so don't worry to hard about them try and build up a good strong portfolio by doing personal work , college work, paid and voluntary x
