Does student finance cover the cost of a study abroad?

I have the option to study abroad for a year as part of a 4 year course (so 3 years in England, 1 year outside of the EU). However, I don't have much in savings and I've heard you need to show evidence you have around £8000 before you go abroad. So, £8000 of my own money or £8000 worth of student finance?

It might not cover the whole cost for example I talked with a student who said she needs to pay 18k dollars but she was getting about 5k gbp in maintenance loan.

While studying abroad you will get the overseas rate of maintenance loan, tuition if applicable and also there is the travel grant https://www.gov.uk/travel-grants-students-england/what-youll-get
