What would you do if you were me?

(Please keep as anon or delete-some of my friends go on this site and I don't want them to know all this!)

Ok, I have a part time job in a Restaurant, as most people do my age (i'm 18).
Im currently in my last year of sixth form, and this job allows me to save a small amount of money to help with general life, as well as for my university savings.

Anyway, I'm not too sure what to do about this situation.
The boss and bar staff are really nice to me...but the kitchen staff, well, thats a completely different story. They are about 10/15 years older than me, and are just well...so nasty. I'm always so polite and nice to them, always ask them how they are, and am always willing to help. The customers are always really friendly, and i'm a happy waitress and always try to do my best for everyone, and it generally goes down well.

However, recently things have taken a turn for the worse.
The 2 people in the kitchen constantly pick on me, I can't do anything at all right. They sometimes even get personal, and have made me cry on a few occasions. They pull faces behind my back and talk about me too (the other waitresses have heard/seen all this). One woman even made me to go through the bin to give her a ticket that had an order written on it, as she didn't believe I had copied it down correctly for her (when I had). They have no trust in me whatsoever, and constantly make me feel inadequate for my job, I feel sick about going to work.

The final straw was yesterday. I am certain that before I went to work I put a £20 note in my wallet (to pay for a chinese takeaway later that evening). But as soon as I came back from work, and went to get a takeaway...it had completely gone! My boyfriend saw me put it in my wallet, so I know I wasn't imagining it.

There aren't lockers at work or anything so my bag stays in the staff room. The kitchen staff are always going in there, and it could be possible that one of them had stolen it from me.

My boss is lovely, but I know if I tell her she is bound to side with the kitchen staff as they're full time and have been working there a lot longer than I have. They are so cunning like that..they're nice to me in front of her but horrid behind my back.

What should I do?? I desperately need this job as I need the money as my parents cant help me much money-wise. So giving up is not an option. I'm scared if I tell my boss the bullying will get worse.

What should I do? What would you do in this situation?

Please help.

Thanks in advance, sorry for the rant!

I think you should tell your boss anyway, you can't keep working with people who are bullying you, and especially when they're stealing from you!

That happened to me before. The boss completely sided with me because they knew that the woman who stole the money was a drug addict and she had stolen from the cash register before. :s-smilie:

I agree, get someone higher up who you like involved...I mean, how do you get on with your boss, would you feel comfortable telling him about this?

The girls at work pick on me because they are full time and have worked there a lot longer so I know how you feel. They call me barbie and say I have no brain because I don't know how to do stuff (I've done 8 shifts so far and I'd never done the job before!) but I just suck it up because tbh they aren't exactly life's high flyers and I just think they resent me because I'm quite cheery, youthful and friendly wheras they are old, bitter and spend their time getting drunk in their workplace. If they stole your money though you should definitely report them that's not cool!

We also have an alcoholic (working in a pub? Not my bosses smartest idea) and she never turns up. Shes **** and she screamed at me I was a bitch when I wouldn't serve her.

Make sure you tell someone about it. Your boss is bound to sympathise!
You don't desever to be treated like that by anyone, especially older people who should know better.

I hope it goes okay for you

I really think you should tell your boss. Maybe you should look around for other jobs as well just in case you decide you want to leave.
I know you need the money, but the whole environment sounds horrible and I'm sure you could find somewhere better especially now you have experience.

Its horrible that adults behave in such a nasty way, you kind of hope as you get older things like this stop.

Tell your boss what has been going on, there is a possibilty they have noticed and just haven't said anything. Explain you understand that its awkward because the kitchen people work full time etc etc but it is really bothering you.
If they don't do anything then is it really worth working somewhere like that?

Don't feel down about it or let in knock your confidence, I'm sure you are great at your job and they are picking on you for no reason.
