awkward problem

This may sound like a strange problem but i really need peoples advice. Its my boyfriends moms birthday tomorrow and we are going for a meal, sounds lovely until i tell you about KEN hes an old, horrible man who takes them out for meals and buys them things (which i find totally wrong) and hes going to the meal.

i seriously cannot stand this man, he says sly things to me (and the rest of the family but they put up with it bcause he buys them things!) when i found out he was comming i told my boyfriend i didnt want to go, but then his mom rang me and said i have to go as she really wants me there, and not to worry because none of them like him. I have said i will go now (because i was put on the spot) and really dont want to. please help!!

you should still go. just stay away from the guy and ignor his comments. they are only words after all.
it will help you make a good impression on the family too, not going would make you look bad

If he is really annoying you either tell him to stfu, or make your excuses and leave early!

I'd go, it obviously means a lot to both your boyfriend and his mum. Just ignore the weird old guy, and if he says owt just raise an eyebrow at him like he's being pathetic, then turn away. :smile:

If your boyfriend's family really doesn't like this man, it might be worth calling the mother and telling her you can't go after all -- to preserve your integrity if nothing else. If her birthday really meant that much to her, she surely wouldn't be spending it with a person she doesn't like (not to mention getting him to pay for it).
