So I graduated with a 2.1 BEng in civil engineering from an okay university.
I had applied for jobs before Christmas and in January before graduation then gave up as I wasn't getting anywhere. Invited to some interviews for very small companies, low salaries 18k ish.
After my last exam around June I started applying again, and have been applying since, roughly 10-15 applications per week. It is now August I have had 1 Skype interview in June, then told they were not taking on graduates. I have been invited to another interview for a different company a few weeks from now.
So what's the deal, civil engineering is meant to be a highly employable course, I've had my CV and cover letter checked, I have work experience in retail and office jobs.
Agencies seem to be really useless and never get back. I have tried chasing companies but they are really slow.
Some of my peers with 2.2's have jobs already. It seems to be a lottery, anyone else having similar issues?
Can anyone offer any advice or let me know if there is hope? How long after graduating a civil engineering course do people usually secure jobs?
Thank you in advance, any questions let me know.
