[B] Hello! Just got my GCSE grades. I had 8 A*s in English Lit n Lang, Maths, Double Science, Religious Studies, ICT, History, and 2 A grades in Art and German!
I don't know what to take at A-Level. I started an AS Level course in Critical Thinking early, and should hopefully have an AS level in January 2005.

I hope to take English Literature, Maths and History for definate, but I am not sure about my fourth choice. I want to keep the option of medicine open, is this possible with these choices? Possibly thinking about law, accountancy, but I am so confused.

What are the requirements for medicine at Uni? Are four really written subjects too much at AS/A2 Level?

Please help me, thanks so much

Not so - biology isn't a definite requirement, unlike chemistry.

For med, you need chem + either bio or maths I'd say. Definately at least two science subjects.

I agree with the others - if you want to keep the Medicine option open take atleast 2 Science subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics & Maths). Good luck.

    I've had another think....
Do u think I would be accepted for medicine with:
    English Lit
    History
    Maths
    Chemistry

    AS: Critical Thinking

Do u think I still keep the Law, Englishy type doors open? Accountancy?

seems ok, but if you're really keen on doing medicine it would be a safer option to have biology as well in my opinion

Scrap history and go for Bio.

That it would. Do you really like history anyway...

How about taking 5, since Critical Thinking will be out the way by January anyway.

How about taking both biology and chemistry, if you feel you could cope with 5 AS subjects? You got 8 A*s and 2 As at GCSE (well done!!!) and started an AS level early, so you're obviously capable. Then you'll have another year to decide what you want to do. If you decide on English-type careers including law, you could drop 2 subjects from biology, chemistry and maths. If you decide on accountancy, you could drop any apart from maths. If you decide on medicine, you could drop English lit and history, but at least you'd have had the opportunity to study history for another year. This keeps your options open a bit longer. If you don't want to do 5 subjects, I'd say do English lit OR history, maths, biology and chemistry. Good luck!

I'd say the more science the better for medicine, lol... Aren't the admissions people quite keen on people having a big passion for studying medicine? I don't know, but if you really can't decide on what to do, you can face it and your timetable allows it... do five subjects at AS. It gives you a chance to decide what you're really good at, and also one of the subjects might make you want to jump off a cliff after another year! It buys you some thinking time to get geared up about what you want to do anyway...

Your choices are fine for medicine, although you seem undecided in your career path. All med schools would require considerable work experience in a caring related field, as well as having the required grades.
