I would start by putting her into catagories, and then expanding these. Some of them may be: Mother, Wife, Sister etc. Look at the relationship she has with Stephen in the play, and possibly how this mirrors his relationship with Barbara, and her affair.

Also do one for language and imagery because they are important
Like Stephen's use of sibilance when describing her, the way she sits when she visits Stephen in his hideout etc
Link her in with themes as well; guilt, betrayal, bullying, spying etc - uses by frayn
Whenever I write about Mrs Hayward I always start with the fact that she is presented with a facade at the beginning of the novel, then as it carries on it slowly broken down until her real emotions are expressed. Then you can go on to develop that with the themes that relate with her and the characters she interacts with etc.

You can support that with a quote in chapter 9, when Stephen talks about how her make up is removed and he can hardly recognise her. Its as if her make up was a shield she was using to hide her emotions.

Bit late I know :p:

is there any other help/advice/character profile help for mrs hayward, or other characters for that matter? would be helpful
