Course starting dates at Falmouth Uni (and freshers)

I just received my AS12 letter, and it says that I'll 'begin my course on 1st September 2017'. However, when looking at the term dates online, it says that the study block doesn't begin until the 18th of September.
Also, the 1st of Sep seems waaaay too early to be starting a uni course in comparison to other Uni's which seem to be starting mid-late September.

I was also wondering when Freshers week is and what this generally involves as I haven't found anything that gives specific dates/details online.

You should have received a welcome letter, a copy of which will have been sent to the email address that you used to apply. This letter details what you need to do to prepare for your course, when you are expected on-site for enrollment, and how to access your induction timetable.

I can confirm that everything kicks off on Monday 18th September.

However, while there are a range of events open to all new students during daytime and evening (I recommend the Pirate Party), there will likely be course-specific activities. For example, Computing students in the Games Academy do a Robot Olympiad later on in the week.
