I would wait until perhaps you're more aware of what the problem is.

It's a nice thought though

I think the card's a really nice idea.
I'm sure, whatever is wrong with her, the card will make her smile.

Reply 4

That sounds like a really nice gesture ;yes; Maybe you could ask your head of year whether it would be appropriate since she'd probably know what the problem was/know your form tutor well enough to know whether she'd appreciate it?

Reply 5

That's a really kind idea and I'm sure it would be very much appreciated, but I'd definitely check with someone important like the Deputy Head first. He/she will know exactly what has happened, and may be able to advise you appropriately.

I agree, even if they don't want to give out details she could say if it's suitable or not, or even if you all really like her chip in and send her a cheap but nice bunch of flowers with a tag on it.... but then a card you can keep for longer if you like that sort of thing

It sounds like a lovely idea

Reply 8

Thanks all. I've been trying to find my head of year today to ask her if it's okay, because I'm pretty certain she knows what's wrong.

Reply 9

Yea you should find out if it would be appropriate first... it is a nice idea though, my seminar group did it last year when one of our tutors was off ill

Im not sure that whats wrong isnt even an issue?
I cant imagine a case where sending a card simply stating that you are thinking of her would be innapropriate?

I think it would be a nice gesture regardless, and im sure it will be appreciated.

Since the school aren't being open about what's happened we shouldn't make any assumptions. 'Get well soon' wouldn't be appropriate if the teacher's partner had just died, for example.

The only way I can think it would make anything worse is if she's gone blind and won't be able to read it. I think it's a great idea.

Reply 13

Yeah, it's a really nice idea, but of course check with your head of year or someone- make it clear to them that you don't want to know what's happened, you just want to send her the card.

Reply 14

Are you sure she's definately ill?
I remember when this teacher at my school was suspended they claimed she wasnt very well.
If something like this has happened then a "Thinking of you card" might be innapropriate.

Reply 15

Yeah, check it's appropriate for the situation first.

Which is probably why both myself and the OP said a 'Thinking of you' card which is appropriate for more or less all situations.

yes, do it asap. I regretted not getting round to doing this for my form tutor a week or so before we sat GCSEs, so incredibly much. I think it's one of the biggest regrets I have in my entire life.

If it's not a joke, this form tutor could have died, and thats why it's their biggest regret.
