but who´s important and who´s not?
Yes I think the map reveals everyone to be honest (though how it shows different floors etc I don't know). Just depends where you're looking doesn't it? Harry was only scanning the map- checking the corridors etc to see who was on the prowl or in his way.

Yes, but all the same. It's such a ridiculous translation. I don't understand why the publishers felt the need to change it. The Philosopher's Stone is an established 'myth' as it were. It's not something JK has created. Would the book not be just as enjoyable to the American audience if it were named the Philosopher's Stone?
Would the book not be just as enjoyable to the English audience if it were named the Sorcerer's Stone?[/

And to answer your question, probably not. I would rather buy a book that says "socerer" which i knew was magic, then a book that says "philsopher", a word that b4 i thought meant a writer, so i would have only bought it once people sias it was good, rather then ahead of the big obsession

I was also wondering about the wotcher thing.
    Any ideas on Dobby's role?
PRILB QOTH: Wht side is Snape really on?

Hold on, i think these people who say it is a dream might not be that fer off. I think volde will kill Harry, and his scar will burst open in pain and 1) baby harry will wake up outside on the step of the dursley's house (forshadowing what will really happen) (seeing the future) or 2) Harry will wake up in his crib, hear a knock on the door, and hear " It's him Lily! Take harry and run".

imagine being Sirius, and coming to james and lily's house, and seeing two of his best friends dead or well wouldn't seeing the dark mark be worse? You wouldn't know wether he let one live (doubt volde has ever been that nice) T

Isn't it weird after watching the second movie seeing riddle and dumbeldore talking like friends, and then volde trying to kill him in book 5. Think, dumble taught him so much that helped him rise.... well he probably used DADA not charms but still... i wonder if dumbldedore had any idea how bad volde was gunna be? hey i wonder what volde's voice sounds like?

You are right, the prophecy says that one cannot live while the other one lives. I dunno if in book 7 he'll die because like Dumbledore said, he has the greatest power in his blood which is love. Love from his mother who protected him when he was only a baby. There will surely be a sort of battle like the book number 4. Lets wait and see.

I would be...dissapointed to say the least if that turned out to be the ending.

That would leave a whole bunch of annoyed people, who would feel completely let down if that were to happen.

I dont think it was really like Riddle and Dumbledore talking like friends, Dumbledore was quite inquisitive of Riddle at the time, and Riddle even says that Dumbledore never really trusted him.

I think Dumbledore could tell there wasnt something bad about Riddle and when Voldemort was at his prime, Dumbledore probably shook his head and said, man I knew this was going to happen. Another words it wasnt a big suprise to Dumbledore that Riddle turned out bad.

    OH James . . . . . . .

    Ha ha ha
    thats so funny!

O.K. I gotcha on the Philosopher deal. Can you relay a link to the real story??
Well, the Philosopher's stone was created by Nicolas Flamel. It was said to contain the Elixir of Life, and anyone who takes this (i just dunno how... swallow the whole stone?!) becomes immortal. In the first HP book, Voldemort was after the stone so he could be immortal and he could stop drinking unicorn's blood.

or maybe Harry will wake up in his crib and a surprised Lily and James would suddenly hear Harry speak in this goo-goo ga-ga voice, "Mum, Somewun iz comin hewe to kiy us!" And they all go away and escape.

    LOL!

If that would be the ending, can we possibly sue JK for being a bad ending-writer? :P

I think the map would probably be set out like most plans of buildings are, with a different drawing for each level, with staircases etc marked so you can see the way between floors

But JKR is British, the book was first released in the UK, I just don't really understand why it had to be changed, its not as if it affect the story, and I'm sure just as many Americans would have bought the book if it were differently named as British people did, if not Americans are very fickle! Are there any other books which have had their titles changed for American readers? Or for British readers for that matter?

James Earl Jones is who I always hear. I guess that is because I grew up with Star Wars (the first one)

no way- whenever I hear James Earl Jones voice I think Mufasa from the Lion King- its funny- the guy who plays Mufasa on Broadway sounds just like him hmmm - they would have to make the voice sounds snakelike and evil- I'll have to ponder on that one-

I don't think it would have made a huge difference if they had left the name as it was- JK even said that was a mistake- she won't be changing much else

A philosopher is not a writer or really smart person or someone who talks alot- a philosopher is someone who THINKS and creates theories- can be anything from the meaning of life to where we go when we die- or, in alot of cases, centers around ethics- Flamel was an alchemist who came across the text of a philosopher, which although it was written in some unknown language, he was suddenly able to understand- it showed him how to make the philosopher's stone, which was used to make the Elixir of life (immortality) and could also turn anything into gold- no story goes into the specifics of how- anyway- in truth he suddenly had a bunch of money and was very old when he "died"- however, the story of the stone had spread so much that people tore apart his house looking for it, then insisted on digging up his coffin to see if it was in there- what they found was......drumroll..... an empty coffin-

I don't think there are many british to american translation books- usually the same books aren't popular in both countries-
