As far as we can tell, there has been no metion of a Royal Family in Wizards.
That's my trail of thought gone then...

It doesn't mean that there isn't a Royal Family. She may introduce on in the next book.

We were going to find this out in CoS, but she said that she scarifised (bad spelling, i know) Deans story for Nevillies which is more important to the storyline. So the HBP isn't Dean.
interesting, especially as the HBP story was lifted from the CoS book...

oh, i guess that rules out petunia then
A squib is basically a wizard born muggle. As you quite rightly said, Petunia can't be a Squib, since her parents were muggles she would just be a normal muggle!

Speaking of squibs... did anyone happen to see the extra scenes on disc 2 of the chamber of secrets dvd? theres a quick scene there where filch drops an envelope from quickspell and harry picks it up for him. I thought it was cool how they referenced that from the books, but I can see why they would have taken it out...

Then how did Lily become a wizard? Kinda like how Hermione did, ie both parents are muggles?
If a squib is a muggle born wizard and Lily's parents were muggles, but Lily is a wizard/witch, then perhaps Lily's parents were squibs, since magic must be in the lineage somewhere for Lily to get it....

i think the point was a squib has to come from a wizard familly

a squib is the opposite of a muggleborn; the former a muggle from a wizard family, the latter a wizard from a muggle family
    (Original post by BossLady)
a squib is a muggle born wizard
thats the confusion - a squib is a wizard-born muggle

Remember in snape's worst memory, he yelled at her and called her a mud blood?

Lily is definitely a witch. Also, didn't Petunia say that her parent were delighted and surprised or something to have her being a witch or something, implying that them themselves weren't wizard or witch. Might be wrong though-can't remember.

Yes, that is the proof that lily's family was muggle.

She said "They were proud to have a witch in the family".

For the same reasons as we've celebrated the birthdays of lots of other fictional characters, because we can
