I've always wondered (and it's probably been brought up before somewhere in the past 560 pages :p: ) why Dumbledore and all the past heads have turned a blind eye to all the dodgy dealings in Slytherin.

All the death eaters and Voldie himself graduated from Hogworts...surely its a bit irresponsible for the school to have made no effort to stop them? Or to stop their children from following the same path?
    been wondering about that myself
heck of a lotta bad guys in hogwarts huh?approximately 1 in 4 students are in slytherin - i think.and they all seem to be a very very nasty bunch

But you can't right a person off just because of the house they're in. I think thats why the teachers turn a blind eye, ok, the ones we see are a bit nasty, but it doesn't mean they all are. All the Deatheaters may have been in Slytherin, but not all the Slytherins were Deatheaters

Rita Skeeter wasn't evil. She was just looking for good gossip.

Compared to Umbridge, she isn't evil (though I'm not saying Umbridge was in Slytherein).

Rta Skeeter was evil in her own way. She cared about noone's feeligs, and was self-centred. She would hapily destroy people's lives by writing lies just to sell papers. That's pure evil in my eyes. Just lookedahead, and compared to Umbridge, she isn't as evil, but she's still evil.
I finally pre-ordered HBP! paid £1 deposit to get the book for £9.99.

True. But if Hogwarts was an ordinary boarding school and there was that high a proportion of criminals and potential criminals in one house, something would be done about it! They'd put in a really strict head-of-house and try to stamp it out instead of leaving turn-a-blind-eye Snape to run everything.

Dumbledore isn't stupid, he knows what half the Slytherin parents are up to. Surely its his responsibility to try and re-socialise their children so they're a bit less likely to end up as Death Eaters?

Wouldn't that be £8.99 as the book costs £9.99.

I pre-ordered it 2 weeks ago, I'm carrying the receipt in my wallet cos I know my mum will just throw it out (she keeps going into my room to clean it even when I tell her NOT to)

Seeing that Snape was a Slytherin, he is probably carrying on the ideals and way of deal with house members like his head of house did.

Yeah, but Snape's way of dealing with house members is to just let them get on with turning into dark wizards. All this talk of defeating Voldermort...it would have been a lot easier if Hogwarts had stamped out his supporters when they were under the control of the school for 7 years.

Dumbledore does try to make them better, he just isn't the type to force them to be someone they aren't.

    Well, I am lovely

I wouldn't Fed-Ex it or anything (so you probably wouldn't get it for a while) but assuming that I'm looking at the right shipping-costs, the offer is there.
Aaaw, thanks, that's really nice of you *hugs* If it's going to be expensive, then don't bother

Skeeter and Umbridge are both evil and are two of the most annoying, yet very effective, characters in Harry Potter, in my opinion.

I wonder what Slytherins talk about within themselves?

Well we did see the Slytherin common room in CoS (have we talked about this?), and they basically discussed how much better they are then everyone else.

You have to remember that that was on christmas day when only a few of them were there. Come to think of it, why did malfoy stay over christmas? One book he is mocking harry for not having anyone to go home to at christmas, but in CoS he doesn't go home.
