Does everyone get the same amount of time to complete the 600 word thing? Just wondering cause people are receiving it at different times?

Hi! Everyone should get 2 weeks to complete it! I just got the request for mine last Friday!

I thought they would send it out at the same time after the UCAS deadline date - must be hard for them to police that everyone has returned it within the right time frame when everyone’s is different! Oh well.

Good luck with yours - I think the hardest part is staying below 600 words lol

I haven’t received mine yet - just read about them in last years thread. Something about what you think a social worker is and an experience you’ve had that made you want to be a social worker not sure what third one is x

Does anyone know if you can submit the same essay to both queens and Magee if you haven't shared your information?

Hi everyone,

I’ve applied for the Grad entry route at Magee - anyone else doing the grad route?

Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I've applied for the grad entry route at Magee too. I just sent off my 600 word personal statement yesterday.

I just received the personal statement email yday so I’ve got until the 29th to get it returned. I know I’m going to struggle keeping it below 600 words lol

Do you live far from Magee?

I was the exact same lol. It took ages trying to cut it down to 600 words. You have lots of time though. The 29th is still a good while away. I'm not too far from Magee - only around a 15min walk. Are you far from it? Its my first time applying this year, so I'm a little nervous. I'm constantly checking my email haha

I’m just over an hour away so will be a long commute if I get a place! Yeah it’s my first time applying too - it seems to be quite a lengthy process and lots of demand for spaces! Think I read somewhere that they have over 1000 applicants every year. I’ve only applied for the Grad route at Magee so I’m limiting my chances but I couldn’t afford to be a student for 3 years 🙉🙉 2 kids at home and a mortgage to pay lol
Hi everyone - hope you are all doing well with the application process so far. I only got my application in on the 15th - it has been submitted without a reference which I hope doesn't scupper my chances? Have applied for the grad route at Magee and just got the email about sharing info with Queens. For those of you that have applied before - are the interviews overly formal? I am unsure of how to prepare properly (if I get to that stage) and am also due to give birth mid-Feb so the ability to even think thoughts at the minute is a struggle haha
Hi everyone, I’ve applied for QUB and UU (3 year). I’ve heard from UU about sharing information which I replied to yesterday but that’s all I’ve heard. Has everyone heard from both QUB and UU?

Hi, I’ve applied for the Grad route at Magee too... I’ve just sent off my Personal Statement - if your application goes through ok you should hear back from the Uni soon with all the info you need for the 600word personal statement - if you pass that stage then it’s interviews. Interviews run from Feb - April. It’s a long process but don’t think they’re too bad (I’ve never been to one but I’ve never heard of any horror stories)

Ooh a new baby in Feb - how lovely! My littlest has just turned 1

Hi Sarah 🙂I got the request for personal statement through at long last so hopefully that is the application formally accepted. I’m sure you have your hands full with your 1yr old haha my eldest is only 6 but it already feels like a lifetime ago so I’m anticipating a few tears (mine lol) when no.2 comes along. Are you living in Derry? Thanks for info on interviews, I think the thought of them sometimes is more stressful than the actual event. For alternatives - The Open University started running the MSc Social Work in Jan of this year, I started looking into it last year but start time didn’t suit me. Their applications open in April, there is no limit on students they accept and on top of the normal application/interview stages you need to have an employer arranged for your placement requirements. Eligibility for the postgrad funding would be a plus also which you can’t get for the grad-route degree 😕Sinead

I recall reading something about the Open University offering Social Work in NI- then when I went looking further I couldn’t find anything more about it - probably because it’s so new. I rang student finance and was told with social work I would be eligible for full funding and the bursary and childcare regardless of already holding a degree - I’m hoping that hasn’t changed 😬😬😬
I’m in a lovely job at the minute (one that may actually suit the Open University route) - I’ve been here for over 4 years but have always been on temporary contracts. By the sounds of things they are talking about making me permanent this year so now I have the dilemma of what to do if I get offered a place.
I live in North Antrim so will be about an hour or so commute for me. Where do you live? I’ve a ten year old a home as well as the 1 year old... so 10years between my two babies - it was def all brand new to me again this time round but my eldest is a great help
