I recall reading something about the Open University offering Social Work in NI- then when I went looking further I couldn’t find anything more about it - probably because it’s so new. I rang student finance and was told with social work I would be eligible for full funding and the bursary and childcare regardless of already holding a degree - I’m hoping that hasn’t changed 😬😬😬
I’m in a lovely job at the minute (one that may actually suit the Open University route) - I’ve been here for over 4 years but have always been on temporary contracts. By the sounds of things they are talking about making me permanent this year so now I have the dilemma of what to do if I get offered a place.
I live in North Antrim so will be about an hour or so commute for me. Where do you live? I’ve a ten year old a home as well as the 1 year old... so 10years between my two babies - it was def all brand new to me again this time round but my eldest is a great help

I just checked sfni website and it did say there was a complete funding package available for social work for 2016/17, I hand on heart didn’t think that was the case a few yrs ago? That’s such a relief so thanks!
Oh god, a commute from Antrim will be tough enough but it’ll prob benefit you when it comes to placements as there is so much in that direction 🙂 We actually just moved back to Derry from Belfast in September, unfortunately no support network in that direction would have made it v difficult to attend the course in any of the other places so we are stuck in Derry again for as long as it takes for Magee to accept me 😂

Yeah u get a bursary now to do social work. Never used 2 b like that. They said at queens that as far as they no the bursary still stands for 2018 start unless education don't get required budget in April x

Hi

I’v applied for the 2 year and 3 year at queens. Applied 3 years ago passed interview but didn’t score high enough to get a place. Anxiety got the better of me. I have 3 children. They are 12, 3 and 7 month old baby so I have my hands full and Am so nervous about this again. But it’s something I’m so sure about. I hate my current job and due to go back after being off on maternity is depressing me so that’s gave me the final push to apply this year again. Good luck to everyone.
Hi jen u certainly have ur hands full. I don't think I cud cope lol. My 2 are 11 and nearly 7. Waiting patiently at mo for transfer results due 2day. Do u have any advice 4 the interview stage? How long previously did it take to get an interview date from when u sent ur 600 word personal statement? Caroline x

Hi everyone, I’ve applied for QUB and UU (3 year). I’ve heard from UU about sharing information which I replied to yesterday but that’s all I’ve heard. Has everyone heard from both QUB and UU?

Hey, yes heard back from QUB and UU relatively quick with regards to sharing info, I said no so I can hopefully get two interviews. UU have requested the second personal statement and nothing back from Queens on that front yet

Hi Caroline.

I don’t know where my original reply went there. I hope ur little one was happy with their results it’s very stressful for them. My daughter got 89 which was good for her as she was always struggling.
I can’t remember how long I waited for the statement but I applied this time on the 9th jan and still haven’t been asked. Tho the other day I was asked for a copy of my degree and gcse eng An for maths.
The interview was actually ok I just couldn’t cope with my anxiety that day. They were very nice and it was quite relaxed.

Hi Jen. I'm glad the interview isn't formal as I think I wud crumble lol. My wee boy got an A so he's very happy but it is a lot of pressure 4 such young kids. Fingers crossed interview dates start comin in soon. I'm such an impatient person when waiting 2 hear back from things lol. xx

Oh that’s brill Caroline he must have been so proud of himself. My daughter got her first choice at grammar and is loving it so far. Such s big change form last year. In the same I hate waitIng I was later applying last time and I got one weeks notice for my interview which I felt was very unfair as everyone else on the thread I was on had about a months notice so had more time to prepare so I’m going to try and prepare earlier this time.
Hopefully we will hear something soon jen. I'm hoping this week. Where have u applied for? I've applied for queens, uu and bmc but hoping 4 queens as it's handier where I live. Get train and 2 min walk xx

I haven’t even been asked to submit the 600 word essay , although I did only apply on the 9th January and a week ago I was asked by email to send a scanned copy of my gcse English and maths as well as my degree transcripts showing all modules. I sent this straight away but still no word.
I haven't been asked 2 send copies of anything but I sent my 600 word statement in on 15th Jan. Was hoping 2 hear something this week. That's 2 weeks past on Monday x

It’s quite annoying because the sooner you get the email/letter about the interview the more you can prepare for it. Last time I had a weeks notice. So maybe just start preparing now ?
I wasn’t asked for copies of anything last time either , I was thinking it’s prob cuz I applied for the RGR 2 year course as well but I applied for that last time and still wasn’t asked for this . :s-smilie: Xx

Have queens not asked you for copies of gcse maths and English? I have only received the questions from UU but not from queens as they asked for my gcse maths and English certificates. I scanned copies like they asked but they replied and said they are not official documents so I rang the admissions office as this is all I have, and it has the exam board printed on it and everything but they said I will have to contact the exam board and get them to send out new ones and because English and maths GCSEs I sat were two different exam boards it would cost 75 quid. Absolutely not paying that for a piece of paper. I sent queens an email saying that I’m a recent graduate of queens graduating in winter past and that I obviously had to have past my English and maths gcse to be accepted into my first degree, I’ve heard no word back from them yet, just annoying as this is delaying my whole process. For those that asked for their information to not be shared between the universities, are the questions different for UU and Queens?

I didn't share my information and I received the same three questions from both universities

That’s so annoying. Same thing happened to me. All I had was what I thought was the official certificates but she emailed and said no we need the official ones I said these are the only ones iv had and iv only ever used them for jobs etc. I also have a degree so obv have GCSEs and even if I didn’t why is it a requirement to have these GCSEs. I never seen anywhere stating these r a requirement. I emailed them again because I think this is holding things up a lot. Iv completed the form about sharing info etc . But as i say .... never asked for these before xx
Ah that's prob the reason. I'm just entering the 3 yr course. I'm panicking in case my 600 word statement wasn't enough 2 get an interview x
