So, this year I haven't really been well and came out with pretty bad grades including an E in German. Do you think it's possible to get it to a C for next year?

It's possible but many schools, including the one I work in, would not accept you onto A2 with an E grade.

This is because A2 is harder than AS so, if you're at "E" now, our experience is that the vast majority of students cannot catch up.

It's completely up to you to be the exception to that rule - if you are honest with yourself about why you got an E and do the work to close the gap and keep on doing the work you can get C or better.

But, like I said, most students don't. Most do not improve on their AS grade when going to A2.

Of course you can
Well I managed to get a C at AS to an A* in A2 without repeating, so I'd say it's possible. And that was in English lit for reference.
I think you can definitely improve on that. Last year I got a U in History and this year I got a C. As long as you work hard next year, I think you can improve on that grade

Honestly, I didn't revise at all for German but i'm prepared for next year. My sister got a E in maths last year, my school allowed her to continue and she got a B today for A2. Also the school i'm at requires you get an E to be able to carry a subject on.

That's brill!
definitely! i got an E at AS in Biology, and a B at A2, I retook one exam this year for biology as well and got an A! as long as you work hard, you should be able to achieve it. I did retake some AS exams whilst doing my A2 exams, but I felt that it helped, particularly with synoptic content. The only problems could be that you might not be able to continue with A2 at your school/college, as some are quite tough on re-enrolement, and also you might struggle to get your teachers to predict you a C at A2 if you got an E at AS
It was really hard work for him and he got the A by 1 point I don't think he would have jumped that far without the private lesson though so I don't think it's normal to jump that many grades.

Blimmin eck! There's so many people who have done quite bad at AS and then improved for A2. Woah! I got a C today in Biology, so hopefully that'll go up too. Yeah that's a good point.

My sister went from an E to a B in maths today, but she didn't have a private tutor. But still, an A is an A.
My first year of AS I got B (Psychology), C (Geography) E (Biology) U (Chemistry). I didn't revise enough, I moved from a public school to grammar school so struggled in class to keep up, and i did not like the exam board. I then decided to move again to a community college, where i was with people more on my level, went back to the exam board i preferred and did more revision and generally took them more seriously. I also dropped chemistry completely for sociology, which was more up my street. ALSO the college was 9-5 4 days a week, so I had more free time to revise and with Wednesdays off i also got more sleep and felt more relaxed, with more time to revise.

My AS at college, I got BBC, so same psych grade, a grade higher in geog and from an E to a C in biology (Also the only reason I got an E is due to coursework which I got a B in, I got two U's in the exams, and when i went to college it was the new a-levels so no more coursework, just exams which I got the C in, so an even bigger jump). Then, this morning I found out I got BBC in my A levels, the same grades as last year. I am so happy.

So yes it is possible, although you may have to change a few things around like I did that you feel were the reasons you didn't do as well as you hoped this year
I was in this position last year and got ABE, my college let me carry on the E grade subject and I ended up getting a C overall!! I even got 1 mark off an A in one of my AS retakes, an exam I previously got an E in. You can do it!! 😄
It depends - I went from a D to an A in history, but you have to work your absolute bum off to get there (I'm talking insane amounts of revision)

I got 2 D's at AS level and this year those 2 became A's when I resat those combined with this year's results. I got CDD in AS and AAB at A2, it's definitely possible with hard work! Go for it
Last year I took maths physics and chemistry and got UEE in them, I carried them onto A2 and got CCB but it took a lot of work but it is doable

It's definitely worth doing then isn't it.
