How do you actually use the overdraft? My account is £0.00 at the moment, that is, no money whatsoever has ever been deposited into it. Can I use my overdraft now? (*evil grin*) ... I really should avoid being in debt before I even become a student.

Just use it? Linds just kept using her card for **** until she realised she's spent like 80% of her overdraft too...not a wise move. I wouldn't know...I have plenty in my account because I don't waste money on stupid crap like you do =P

Ooh, I got my account thingie through this morning, only I recently decided I'm not going to uni this year. My plan was to take the overdraft and put it in a high interest account etc.

That doesn't sound good. I just can't quite believe that HSBC would let me go and spend £1000 right now, admittedly I'd have to pay them back in like 5 years, but I'm scared they gonna ring my mommy up and tell her I've been naughty or soemthing.

Ahahaha no worries...that wouldn't happen. The only way she'd find out is if she got her hands on your statement so if she checks your mail while you're at uni, you'll be in trouble =P But yeah that's what the overdraft's for, ultimately you're doing the bank a favour by owing them even more money.

Does it say "available balance £1000.00" when you check your balance at a cashpoint though? Even if your actual balance is £0..

Yeah, you're right; also, your statement will tell you your overdraft, or confirm it, and also if you go to internet banking, it will tell you...Be careful, because if you don't have an overdraft, it might let you take money out anyway, which will be unauthorised, and you'll PAY I think it's ridiculous that banks LET you take out money and then charge you!!!!!
