Can I do a PGCE specialising in English, if I do not have an English Degree?

I have a BA in Creative Writing and History (First) and an MA in Creative Writing (Merit)

Ultimately I would love to go on and teach A Level Creative Writing, however, I am concerned that I will not be able to so as my degree is technically not an English degree.

Well to be honest, A-level Creative Writing isn't as popular because you could teach that at colleges.

However, you would still need to get a PGCE is teaching, either secondary or college.

There's not really any opportunities for teaching Creative Writing. Your most likely get offers to teach English but not Creative Writing.

Your best bet to teach A-level Creative Writing is for you to offer private teaching. If you don't want to do that, you should do an Open Uni course and get some Literature modules under your belt.

Although saying that, some Unis (if you go down the PGCE route) offer places for people with Creative Writing degrees spaces on a PGCE English course.
You always needed at least 50% of your first degree to be English lit based. However, in a system of shortages, you can end up being an English teacher who teaches art, drama, history, maths.....whatever! I had a friend who trained for secondary English with a degree in communication studies. You will have to convince the places you apply to that your course covered English lit in sufficient depth, otherwise, I would guess they will ask you to train for history teaching. I Hope things work out, because I'm sure you have a great deal to offer with your impressive qualifications.
