I find printing the lecture slides before the lecture the best way. That way I can focus in listening/understanding in the lectures and only need to write additional notes that aren't on the slides.
It depends on thd course. For law ive heard typing is very popular but for subjects like engineering almosy everyone hand writes so it really depends ...
