Mensa on CV...?

Ok, basically I am a member of Mensa (high IQ society), and I was wondering if it would be sensible to put that on my CV. It'll a) make me look good as you need to have an IQ in the top 2% of the country, or b) make me look exceptionally arrogant and up myself.

Thoughts?

im a member of mensa simply because i wanted something to put on my Personal Statement. i have never used it and wont (i dont feel clever enough). For a CV though, might be good but depends what for. manual labour is probably a no no. financial sector etc. could be a good idea, makes you stand out.

I put it in my PS, but it's currently not in my CV and I keep it a secret - it's annoying how people look down on you for it. That's why I'm cautious about putting it on the CV for regular jobs, however I think IBs might appreciate it more. Hence why I'm asking!

Wouldn't probably matter much to be honest... If I was a recruiter I would probably just shrug as it is somewhat irrelevant to how well you would be doing your job. IMO it might look a bit weird and a bit full of yourself.

That's what I was thinking. The only thing is that it shows you can pass tests of a similar vein to the ones they'll throw at you (not that I've been subjected to those logic tests yet, but it stands to reason they'll be similar).

Lots of people are uneasy when confronted with intelligence - I'm not saying I'm that intelligent, only that I'm able to pass IQ tests, but some (insecure) people react oddly. I don't tell anyone now, although I suspect it would be ok at College since everyone's that intelligent anyway.

True. Personally I have always associated your IQ score to be in the same category as your salary, you just don't talk about it because it can make other people feel uneasy/jealous/look at you differently. I don't know, it just gives a bit of a geeky vibe as well..

comon guys. Don't put it in your CV, you'll get an interview anyway, that's where you need to show your intelligence. They wont care about the mensa stuff, I know I wouldn't. They'll notice if your intelligent or not no matter how high your IQ might be on paper.

I agree. That's why I would never put it on a CV to PCWorld for example, but would the HR people at Citi say see it differently? I'd imagine they wouldn't feel threatened by it, by any stretch of the imagination. :p:

i just took the test on the off chance that id get in. im definitely not a geek (i cant do any of the mensa quizzes) and so dont want to give off that vibe.

The thing is, are you more likely to get an interview because you are able to prove your intelligence over others even before they have met you?

I agree, in fact reading the magazine makes me hate the vast majority of "Mensans" - they seem to be old, ugly people who have sad lives. (A vast vast generalisation, I realise :p:) I try the quizzes, but normally I just get bored and do something else!

That's the issue - at the moment I stand a good chance of getting the interview (hypothetically): good Uni, good degree, good A levels etc. I just want to make damn sure I get the chance to impress :p:

No. Have you really proved your intelligence over others if you passed a quizz where you by chance could have guessed everything right and got in with an IQ of 140 ?

If you're that lucky in life, perhaps you'll be that good at picking stocks
IQ tests, esp the ones mensa use are made so guessing does not work. you can guess but you wont get anywhere near enough the score to qualify for mensa

haha well, it's your choice  But honestly, would you say in an interview that your a member of mensa?

Or would you think you would look like an arrogant ass?
Why does having a high IQ make you a good candidate for a job? Plenty of people have high IQs and little to no real skills, other than being very good at IQ tests.

i think id make it go like this:
I=interviewer: So, it says here, you are a member of mensa?
M=Me: Yes. I thought i would take the I.Q test out of interest. It just so happened, i qualified for Mensa. I didnt really know much about them so i applied.
I: Do you feel being a member of mensa has benefited you?
M: Not immensely but it is interesting to be part of somethin like mensa.

The points people are making are exactly the reason I started the thread :p:

Arrogant? slightly weird? yes.

Something interesting? different? shows intelligence? yes.

Hmm. :frown:
