Is it true that writing in blue improves recall memory?

I've seen a lot of people say you remember things better when you write them in blue ink, but I haven't ever seen an actual study on this, so is it true?

I can't remember the last time I wrote in blue.

I work and study in the field of memory and much like most things in this area - it's complicated.

There have been some studies conducted that suggest blue and red ink improves memory recall - but in different areas. For example, it is suggested that writing in red (not blue) is better for tests of recall and attention whilst writing in blue is better for creative-style tests.

I'm not an expert in this specific area as I focus on eyewitness memory, but I'm not sure how valid these studies and whether there is any 'meat' to this idea - but it is definitely interesting.
