You don't usually get a choice, why would an organisation pay for an expensive software system if they could handle hand delivered applications? You have to use the mechanism the employer puts in place, CV or application form, hard copy, email, online form etc

Most organisations (particularly if they are chained) nowadays require an online application, so you don't really have a choice to physically hand in your CV.
If you've completed your degree at university and want a graduate job, there is 99.9% that you will need to apply online as organisations have stringent assessments that you strictly have to pass to get an interview especially in verbal reasoning and aptitude tests. :sadnod:
Gone are the days where you can just simply ask around and hand in a CV. In most cases physically handing your CV to the store is quite rare in the present day.
Normally if you physically hand in your CV, you have a chance to make an impression and talk to the manager. Nowadays, this is quite rare (probably okay for small shops).

You have to follow the instructions that the business has set - if they say apply online, then do so. If they say drop in a CV or fill in an application form, then do so.

Increasingly, companies ask for online applications - it is easier and more cost effective way to seek out top applicants.

Hi

That is a good question and one we do get asked a lot.

I think it can depend on the business as there are some (usually smaller and locally run) business' that will still take CVs face to face but I would say the vast majority of companies now look for them to come across online. I think you really just have to look at what they are asking for.

These days a lot of recruitment is handled by a central recruitment team so even visiting the company to hand in a CV you may not be meeting the person looking after the recruitment so it can often not make much difference.

The key definitely is to look at how they request you to apply and go with this.

Best of luck!

Jo
