Yes, plenty of people got rejected from both Oxford and Cambridge in my school. Plenty of people who deserved to go there.

^ Without interview though? I suppose it's more common at Oxford, but I would've thought that at Cambridge if you have a reasonable chance you'll get interviewed...

All the applicants to Cambridge at my school has got interviews (though admittedly that's like 3 people!), although I think the girl that applied for History at Oxford may have got rejected without interview (understandable given they deselect by the HAT).

I think a few people on TSR may have got rejected without interview for medicine and law.

I agree. Now I'm truly beginning to see what people mean when they talk about the "lottery " of Oxbridge.

No actually. But they all have straight As at AS level and probably at least 7 A*s at GCSE.
Reply 7
Yes, one guy I know had 4 A's on AS and predicted 4 more A's for A-level, applied for Lit, no interview. Oxford.
3 at my school. 1 for Cambridge and 2 for Oxford.

i know someone for modern languages. 11A*s at GCSE, 4As at AS:confused:

Yes - me.

Also a few others that I know of have been turned down, but my school has about 20 people applying so I suppose it's to be expected that we're not all going to make the cut.

I hope you don't mind me asking but when did you hear about getting rejected?

My friend applied to Ox for Physics and she said she won't get an offer (her ASes & GCSEs are brilliant, she said the test was torture though), and she hasn't heard anything, I'm just wondering when she can expect to know.

And sorry. :frown:
I haven't heard of anyone that's been rejected yet from our pool of 11 applicants. Granted, 10 of them are applying to Cambridge.

 Same thing (as in exactly same college too), when did you get your letter?

I got mine about a week ago.

Without interview. But more for Oxford than Cambridge, yeah.

One girl for engineering at Cambridge. I think she had a B in AS physics though, so not hugely surprising.

 Your grades are better than almost all the oxbridge applicants at my school, but most of them got interviews... (i Didn't  ); What were your actual module scores?
Sounds slightly worrying with these applicants being rejected without interview. I wonder what caused it, awful personal statements and references, low As, or below average GCSEs.
Wow crazy, I've got one for Biology at Oxford. AABC at AS, predicted 3 A's though and have good GCSE's. But not as good as some mentioned here
We've had two rejected by Oxford pre-interview (out of 64 or so Oxbridge applicants), one for PPE and one for Economics & Management - both had AAAB at AS. For the first time in the schools history we've had someone invited to interview at Oxford with AABB at AS, with a B in the subject he's applying for (History).
