Hello there

The End1 qualification is the English speaking grade that she got, it doesn't count towards the end GCSE result.

D - Distinction.
M - Merit.
P - Pass

Hang on. I don't even remember doing a speaking assessment and I got a Distinction. I know I did an interview for the school about the teachers. They might have used that. They might have done something where they entered us all onto speaking and only bothered assessing the people who were selected? But the people who did the test volunteered?

I also am confused about this - under my son's English language mark END1 said M but under Grd1 is says 1 - anyone know what this means - we thought he'd failed it and couldn't work out why as he passed Eng lit with flying colours.

Maybe there needs to be an exam in how to interpret exam results!

it means he got grade 1, the lowest grade. with a merit in his speaking and listening

Sadly yes. The P is for passing the English Speaking endorsement, which doesn't count towards the final grade, while the 3 is his grade. A 4 is needed to pass. It might be worth contacting his exams officer to find out how close he was to the grade 4 as a remark might be worth it
