I would love some debate over Catholics disbelief in the use of a condom.

The reason I bring this up is I recently went to Malawi in Africa and was really really saddened by the amount of adults and young children with HIV. Yet, the pope is calling the handing out of condoms wrong...

Please can someone explain to me how the abolition of condoms can ever be a "good" thing? I understand the other side of the argument, but having seen such horror first-hand, it's clear the pope is out of touch.

They're badly out of touch and still under the assumption that increased availability of condoms leads to increased sexual activity.

I think they're relaxing the stance a bit though.

I am a student in a catholic school, and I'm doing A-Level Religious Studies. I would never agree with the church's stance on contraception, but i do know the reasons why they haven't changed this. Although the Pope is the head of the church, for him to make such a dramatic reform to the faith and condone the use of contraception would be a complete mayhem in the catholic bubble. Their view to preventing HIV spread is sexual education and abstinence, and to be perfectly honest, i cant see this changing anytime soon! Their views are based on Natural Moral Law, in which an action is either intrinsically right or wrong, and in this example, contraception is always wrong as it prevents the creation of human life - which goes against one of the primary precepts of the faith.
