Core and Frame Concept

Hello.

I'm doing my Geography coursework on Hull's CBD, and basing it around the core and frame concept/model, with it's zones of assimilation and discard and whatnot.

Now, trouble is, I can't find an awful lot of information on the net. I've managed to find out who came up with it and a few details - but the problem is, in the text books at school they just seem to cover the bare essentials, and I'd quite like to look into a bit more detail.

If anyone either has their own input, or a useful link which provides in-depth information, that would be super helpful. Criticisms of the model, or any details of the stud(ies) that originally took place when the model was being devised would be ideal.

Anyway, thanks folks.

Search for "core/periphery" instead; I've never heard it called "core/frame" before, I imagine maybe your teacher thought they'd 'dumb it down' because some people might not understand the word 'periphery'...

No. Core and Frame is the correct terminology. It needs to come from your textbook probably - have alook on jolly useful websites thread and see if there's anything there - Kay's geography page is often a good strat.
Look for the book 'geography of settlement' by David Hopkinson (I think that's his name). Theres quite a bit on the concept under CBD delimitation. The theory was established by Horwood and Boyce (c.1959) on the back of CBD delimitation techniques developed by Murphy and Vance (1954).

you also might want to try David Waugh's, An Integrated Approach: or search for the Central Business Index.
