Has anyone worked in a warehouse?

What is it like? What do you do in there?

depends on all sorts of things ...

as a general warehouse operative it really does depend on what the warehouse stores and what it does with what it stores
e.g.

some warehouses are purely 'whole pallet' operations , which means you check pallets in and then drop them into locations by pallet truck / LLOP / forklfit and then later on when the product is needed someone fetchs the pallet out of location , checks it out of the system and loads it onto the outgoing lorry / container -

other warehouses you'll never actually handle one physical product of what you keep but there will be plenty of building up pallets of outer boxes / trays to send out .

other warehosues you'll pick single products and then box them up / put into totes and send out ... and other places again you'll do 'directs' or ' order fulfillment ' ( e.g. internet orders or 'click and collect ' ) and pick and pack single product (s) to go directly to the end user ...

sometimes warehouse jobs are workign for courier firms or in a 'cross dock ' facility where you don;t actually store much if anything just sort incomingstuff into outgoing loads ...

warehouses can be anythignfrom near clean room shirt sleeve environments o fairly dirty environments where PPE is required and you are working in a building with it;s own microclimate ... ( don't laugh i have seen actual clouds inside warehouses)

there are admin and planning roles which are half in and half out of the warehouse / office ,

there's various managerial roles, training roles, technical support roles ( hell of a lot of IT kit in many warehouses )
