I live in Birmingham at the moment. It's very very very good for nightlife. The uni's campus is awesome too (green and nice looking).
Campus is GORGEOUS nightlife is very good and varied and the accommodation is nice but make sure you look round it first and decide what your preferences are!! It is an amazing Uni and I personally love everything about it  Hope that helps a little, feel free to PM me with any specific questions!

Birmingham! I went and saw Leeds last year, they had my PERFECT course, nowhere else in the country did it but - BLACK heavily industral city put me straight off - but I know people who love it there, so whatever floats your boat =)
I would look around both and decide which you get a better feel from. The Birmingham campus is so beautiful though, its nothing like being in a city almost completely isolated from it but still in easy reach which I really like. Accomodation is pretty expensive but pretty good - there's nothing to particulaly avoid as such most have been revamped recently! And Nigthlife is great - deffinately nothing to worry about there - there is always loads going on!
I would advise look into your course as much as possible though, I was too worried about being in the right place that I'm actually looking to change my course next year now lol! Love this Uni tho so will deff be internally transferring
Hope this helps!

If i could go to any uni in the country it would be Leeds but they don't do my course there unfortunately. It's got really good nightlife, loads of shops, great accomodation at both ends of the spectrum and it's generally cheaper place to live in than Bham.

Both are really good universities and well rounded.

But I think Birmingham has a slight edge.

hey...my sister did soc at leeds, and i currently study at bham. However much i love bham i gotta say leeds uni and nightlife is better. However i remember when my sis was applying bham rated higher for sociology...stuart hall used to be a lecturer here!...and she did moan on about how disorganised the sociology dept was at leeds!.. balance out which uni/course it better with which city your prefer. In all honesty i think liking where you are and live is more important than the rating of the uni!
