becoming a nail technician

Ok so really i have NO skills, and I've given up on looking for a permanent job!

So i am obsessed with my nails so I'm now thinking about becoming a nail technician. I've been looking at short courses and they cost from 150 for specific areas and up to 500+ for everything you need to start working ASAP.
But there are sooooo many nail shops these days and they are reallllllly cheap! (from 15 for a full set of acrylic sometimes with free airbrush).

So is it worth spending so much money on a course that i might not even make money out of...? Obviously i would like to make home calls etc but if i can only charge so much it would outway the costs of petrol etc

Don't give up OP. It's a good field to get involved in as everyone is obsessed with beauty and the way they look at the moment so demand for beauty technicians will be HIGH. As for whether its worth spending the money on the course...why not? It would give you a skill that employers in that field will desire. Why don't you consider other beauty related areas/ fields also so that will give you more options and who knows what the future holds for you?!

(sorry if that sounded cheesy but go for it!)

Good luck

I have a friend who is a nail technician and she is always busy, and she's self employed

Plus you could always work in a salon anyway- there are always vacancies by me for nail technicians!
Yo, I always walk past the nails and beauty academy on the way to school in the mornings. They look really good. Always happy (very good looking) women coming out at lunch time!

i think their website is this: www.nailsandbeautyacademy.co.uk

They run nail courses or whatever this nail technician thing is!

good luck!

Why does this thread have 1100 views and 3 replies lol ? :s-smilie:
I had the same issue before I started college. The fact that there are many nail shops shows there is a market and by you training give you a an upper hand as you will join the industry skilled and even better. As a result, if you do a better job then people will be drawn to your salon through word of mouth. Knockout the mentality that the market is crowded!!!
