Taleo recruitment system

Many large companies use taleo recruitment system. Do all companies which use Taleo use its in built keyword search which basically scores CVs based on keywords and sifts out everything but the top ones? How do you beat the Taleo keyword search system?

You repeat the job advert. The words they search for (apart from Unis and subjects, if they want to search for them) will be the words they use in the job advert, or words with the same meaning.

So if they say they want presentation skills, they will search for Present***, Negotiat*** etc. If they want leadership, then they will search for Led, Captain**, In charge of, Lead**, Manage** etc.

I would not worry about this. However if you are worried, carefully read the job description and make a note of the key words that you think are most important. Incorporate some of the keywords into your application.

Might be a silly question but when tailoring your cv, do you need to add in examples which take into account the job accountabilities as well as the essential and desirable requirements?

You need to fill one side of A4 with your best evidence. If you've got evidence of having been accountable for the same issues in a previous role, then yes, that would probably rate higher than desirable skills or perhaps repeats of skills. However, you might also be able to work it into skills based bullet points or the covering letter.

I'm starting to think the only way to pass the CV sift stage is to copy and paste the job description and requirements and slot them into your CV where relevant. Clearly, if they need to do any interpreting, it gets thrown away, no matter how good it is.
