Surely CVT should be >7 since it's basically infinite?

Anyhow, mine has 24 because it's a bicycle :frown:.

It depends what you call "gears" and whether you are talking about reverse.

Also automatics are a different animal as well as they're fast becoming 8+ forward gears being normal in the premium cars. I have the ZF 8 speed on my BMW.

If you want a high number I can think of the old landrovers (series 2a,3 etc) that had

4 forward gears on the main box
2x4, 4x4 high and 4x4 low on the transfer box (a proper lever not a button)
An overdrive (optional extra)

26 forward gears? And that's before we discuss PTOs.
