Inequality help

This is so very basic, but simply can't remember the answer -

Can the inequality "z>4 or z<-3" be written as "4<z<-3" ?

I've written the latter but the mark scheme says the former, and I'm just curious if they're equivalents. Sorry for the dumb question, I'm still very much in summer holiday mode.

Your answer says that -3 is bigger than 4.
Either z is larger than 4 or it is smaller than -3, it can't be both.
But your answer is saying that z is both larger than 4 and smaller than -3, which is impossible.
