Algebraic equation solving

X-2 divided by 7 = 2 + (3-x) divided by 14.... Only 3-x is divided by 14
When working it out I got x=5 and the. another time I got x=9. But when substituting into x it doesn't statisfy the solution... Where have I gone wrong?
Many thanks for your help:smile:

Show some working so I can see at what line you made a mistake.
Are you cross multiplying?

2x-4/ 14= 2+ 3-x/14
2+ 3-x-2x-4/14=0 also did with -2x+4
2-1-3x=14
1-3x=14
3x=15
X=5

No but should I

1-3x=14

Use brackets! I think you are confusing yourself by not using them. So start with (2x-4)/14=2+(3-x)/14. Then, its should be +4/14 on the second line you are subtracting minus 4/14 so a minus of a minus makes a plus. Next, when multiplying by 14 remember to also multiply 2 by 14 as well and 0 multiplied by anything is 0 so there should be no 14 on the right hand side.

What do you make x to be?

I got x=35/3. Can you show your working again?

Yay thank you so much Dalek:smile:
I figured it out:
2x-4-3+x/14=2
X-7/14=2
3x-7=28
3x=35
X=35/3
