MacBook Air or Surface Laptop for uni?

I'm looking to get a new, lightweight laptop to use for the next few years at uni. Will be using it for studying, browsing, watching vids + movies etc. Nothing too heavy, although some light gaming might happen every now + again.

Both laptops looks great, but I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to understanding specs. As I'm a student, I get student discount with both stores, and with the Apple store I can get free Beats too.

Will be going for i5 processor, 8GB memory, and 256 GB SSD storage on both.

Which one would you guys recommend for uni?

Both are very over priced.
How important is lightweight and portable for you, You will probably just work in your flat anyways right?
What does light gaming mean, what games.
Is there any program requirements for your course?
Any laptop can do movies and browsing, ones costing less than £200.

I wouldn't spend that much money on a Microsoft product. Not suggesting Apple is cheap but in the long run it tends to retain its value better. Plus the iOS is much more stable than Microsoft.

If I was you I'd also look into Macbooks if your pocket allows.

As above, there are much more wallet-friendly brands out there. These charge nearly £1000 for what is basically an upscaled tablet!

Check out sites like Curry's and PC Specialist, they sell cheap but functional laptops, and there are plenty of good looking ones in there too.
