Britain colonised the world, so why can't the world return the favour?

Because Brits have a very 'Brit-centric' view of history and fall into that old habit of viewing other cultures as 'lesser'.

Just like every other country.

Because we won when we colonised

The elite are threatened by it and they run the tabloid media so they manipulate the masses, etc.

So basically, Brits complain about immigration because the tabloid media tells them to.
Brits benefited enough from immigration and feel immigration is no longer needed. Also, the mentality of Brits being more superior than others sadly still remains.
Because the media told them to.
Two wrongs don't make a right. Even though Britain has done a lot of harm (and some good) through colonialism, that is not the fault of anyone currently alive in Britain so it seems unfair to "punish" anyone for it. Immigration is a complicated debate and there are convincing arguments and good people on both sides.

There was nothing inherently good about colonialism. The only people who benefited from colonialism was the Brits.

Britain has historically been a country of immigrants. Romans, Vikings, Normans, and in recent years from the West Indies and Asia. Most British people have ancestors from abroad.

I am not defending colonialism at all and I believe that it was very wrong but there are a few examples where Britain helped countries (for example, my country Singapore). But that doesn't make Brits today responsible for the damage caused by colonialism.

Xenophobes believe that the achievements of their ancestors make them superior to others, they see an immigrant, any immigrant as lesser to them. No matter the immigrant's level of education, how much they've contributed to their community, how much they pay in taxes, the ability to see a foreigner as an equal just does not come as a thought to a xenophobe. To them being British is the end all and be all, and they still live with dreams 'Pax Britannia 2.0' after 'Britain's independence day'.

Do not take what xenophobes say to heart, for they live for the past and not for the present. Just look at our capital for inspiration, London is a world-class city not because it is British, but because it is an international city, it draws talent from all around the world with the capacity for those greatest minds to work towards solutions of modern day problems.

It's more to do with the immigrants themselves imo. many of these new immigrants are not assimilating into the local culture, and not adapting to British values and society. if you come here you should accept you should become part of the nation and follow our cultural identity
Because grumbling is stereotypically British and if we British cannot grumble by jingo we are not British!
A lot of the educated new generations don't. The main problem over here is mis-education in a lot of places, but most brits don't have a problem with immigration. I think it might just be where you live, or maybe it's a stereotype. In London at least, we all pretty much love immigration because it can add to the culture. X

because anyone who criticises immigration is a xenophobe? Immigration is not all good you know there are bad points as well.Yes London is a world class city and other cultures do enrich the UK.But on the flip side of that you also get stuff like FGM,Terrorism, oppression of women and ghettos in major cities. You can't just pretend that immigration is only a good thing with no drawbacks whatsoever. When you get 400 british people journeying to syria to join isis then I think there is legitimate debate to be had here.
Because Britain will objectively become worse economically and military if we fill it with more third worlders.
The only people who can keep countries running are the Jews.

God bless Israel.

There's some good arguments for immigration, this is a terrible one. White Americans enslaved black Americans, why can't they return the favour?

Care to give an example?

The fact that most British people have adopted many elements of foreign cultures (just see the food in supermarkets to get an idea) suggests otherwise. British culture, including that of conservative British people, is still a lot more diverse and of more foreign influence than say Scandinavian culture.
