Same here. Given up hope of ever being offered one, I applied for and became AO at HMRC since last yr's TSP so hopefully will have more of an insight into HMRC this time around. Well I can live in hope!

Have you been given a provisional offer and not received a formal offer? I was given a provisional in late August and have completed pre-employment checks, just waiting for a formal offer and start date.

Oh god this is terrible news.

I know, right. I utterly despise SJTs as I am constantly second-guessing myself. Going to go for it now, hopefully I survive.

Reading the competency framework now. What level are we applying at? 4?

Hi guys, I'm new to the thread but I have been stalking it since the application was open 😊

I already work in tax in private sector but want to try and make the jump to the other side to HMRC.

So far I got 98% in verbal and 99% in numerical but absolutely dreading the SJT.

Good luck with the SJT! You've got fantastic scores so far!

Thanks! I've used practice aptitude tests website up to now. Here's hoping that their SJT practice tests will be just as useful.

Can anybody confirm how long the invite takes to the SJT after the numerical? I have a few things on this week so was hoping to do numerical on Friday then - if sussessful - the SJT on Saturday morning. I could do them sooner, but don't see the point in rushing into them if it doesn't close until 4th. Just wasn't want to leave them until then if there was a 1-2 day gap for the SJT invite. Thanks

I got my invite to SJT as soon as I’d completed the numerical test

For anyone who has used practice aptitude tests for numerical how does it compare to the real test in terms of difficulty? I’ve been practicing and the earlier tests are ok but getting to tests 11 onwards and they are ridic hard (I find and even their avg scores aren’t great) 😩 so I was just going to leave it and do the test, but if the numerical test is actually as hard as those ones I’d better persevere.

No, I was put on reserve list for band O and keep getting emails stating they'll get back to me if anything becomes available. Last email in Sept said If I don't hear anything by xmas I won't be offered a role. Scored relatively low on last yrs SJT so I'm not expecting anything tbh. Meanwhile I'll apply internally when something comes up. The whole civil service recruitment process seems agonisingly long. I applied for AO Dec last yr, interviewed Jan, prov offer April and formal offer in June!

Has anyone else applied for the HMRC professional accountancy scheme? (It is not the same as the tax one)...

Ok thanks

I think the cut off for the SJT was 80% last year. However, the SJT was at stage 2 last year, so perhaps the cut off will be lower this time, as you have video interview at stage 2. As others have said, you can be told straight away whether you have reached the minimum standard, but they won't decide the cut off until everyone has completed it, so they can put the desired amount of people through to the next stage. Good luck everyone!

Do you mean the Trainee Accountant jobs? If so, then yes. Got interviewed last week for the O grade role. A colleague of mine got interviewed for the HO role yesterday.

I haven’t heard of that before. Can you give any further details?

Also, is anyone else having problems viewing their test report after completing the sjt? I can see my result but the link to the report isn’t working.

I applied, there's 5 role in total across both grades If I recall correctly.
How did you find it?

I'm a bit gutted because I totally butchered the 15 minute paper by overthinking it, everything else went brilliantly.

No I'm pretty sure there's 5 O and 5 HO jobs, so 10 in total. There were two job adverts, 1 for the O grade and 1 for HO grade but the HO job is only level transfer. Also I asked at the end of my interview if I would be considered for the HO grade and they said no my interview is just for the O grade.

I found it alright. I had a HO and a SO interview in August so I learnt a bit from those (I was rejected from both). I found myself waffling a bit for my Making Effective Decisions competency though. One of the panel even asked for me to clarify what my decision was! Looking back I think I told more of a story than a competency. The 15 minute paper was actually better for me than the actual interview. Hopefully I've done enough.

hey my friend just the SJT and got 31% and failed. He said it was really difficult, any tips before I do mine??

Reply 379

That was very difficult. More difficult than the other two exams. Not happy with a potential video interview either. I got 73% I don't think I've made it through if the cut off put is near 80%. I rarely felt confident in my answers. It was more guess work than anything. Just try to judge each action on it's own merit than comparatively with all the actions.
