The issue is you have a large number of candidates in professional jobs who are bound by contracts where the time in which you need to hand your notice in is a key factor. Simply put, if I don't have my feedback by this Thursday I simply won't be able to get out of my current contract in time and I will decline the placement offer even if successful. If the HMRC are reading this (as they stated they would after the challenging Assessment Centre process) I have to say, I would have expected more.

Many candidates spent a considerable amount of money in loss of earnings through travelling to the Assessment center / loss of earnings. My place of work footed a bill of £250 to cover my absence. They are continually asking me if I've heard anything yet as they need to prepare the advertisement replacing my post. To have a fairly ambiguous statement like "end of March" is, quite simply... not acceptable imho. There should be a clear date for feedback.

Remember HMRC "Working at pace" "Meeting deadlines" "Clarity" are a key descriptor of the job ;-)

End of March is pretty definitive. Anything before 31st March is a bonus. Anything after 31st March is late. As others have pointed out though even if you're successful you might not get your location preference and you won't hear either way regarding location until May.

I personally think the timeline has been very accurate to the original advert and we've been informed of all dates - end of March if you've been succesful at AC, start of May location and feedback, 6th Sept start date.

I would just like to know one way or the other, my current role is fixed term ending in August so if I’m successful here that will be a massive weight off my shoulders. I’m very half heartedly job hunting at the moment

Agreed. The timeline of the whole process has been fine and they have stuck to every deadline. Only reason we don’t yet know is down to an AC being resheduled due to extreme weather.

Successful just means you've met the standard. More than 200 may meet the standard in which case, some who meet the standard will not make the cut and will be put on a reserve list or potentially offered roles at bands O or HO as a "near miss" possibly along with those that fell just below standard especially now there is another campaign for 1,500 compliance roles at those grades so you may be offered one of those roles and be able to try again for TSP19.

The roles are filled from the top of the list by first preference, if the slots available at your preferred sites are full by the time they get to you, then that's where you could be offered a slot at an alternative site or you go on a reserve list for bands O or HO. This clearing process runs until the slots are full or they run out of applicants that have met standard.

The "near miss" roles are not guaranteed however as last year there were none as they were still clearing reserve lists from recruitment campaigns in 2015.

Do you know if there are ever SO roles offered off the back of TSP?

I mean if you make the standard but don’t get offered a job they basically believe you are good enough to be a Grade 7.

Just asking as I’m currently a HEO with the Home Office and probably wouldn’t move sideways at this stage

No. Getting on TSP means they think you're capable of training to be a Grade 7, not that you're anywhere near Grade 7 standard now. HO is the highest grade job they may offer on the back of the TSP recruitment process.

Not that I am aware of. You are assessed at HO level to get onto the course and paid a similar salary (albeit £1,000 less). TSPs are managed by either an SO or Grade 7 depending on your cohort.

You're only good enough to be a Grade 7 once you complete the course and graduate. Some do drop out into HO roles but there is also a risk that you could be let go if there isn't a business case to keep you at a lower grade, especially if you are external.

No you're training on Band T just below HO in salary although if succssful you would keep your current pay. The 3 years training and exams takes you to Grade 7. I believe on the old 4yr scheme part way through there was a pay jump to SO and at a certain stage if you failed your exam(s) you'd be found an SO grade post as you'd got so far through the program *unless as stated you're external in which case it'd be 'goodbye'

This might sound like a stupid question: if you've made it to AC, but then fall short for TSP, or meet the standard, but can't get your location, you 'may' be offered another role. So there will be about 400 people who fall into this group. If they're currently recruiting for 1500 compliance roles - closing date next week - and you would like one of those, do you still need to apply and go through that process? I know they bank the verbal and numeracy scores, but there's still the huge application and another situational judgement test if you have to apply from scratch. That's a lot of effort if they are going to offer 400 of those roles to TSP AC candidates anyway? And a big risk if that's not what they do, and you don't apply - particularly for anyone 'successful' who can't get their location.

So I emailed them exactly that question and this is what they got back to me with...
‘Thank you for contacting us. You will need to submit new applications for the roles you are interested in. A separate application is required for HO and Band O. If have already taken the test at the same grade you are applying for within the last 6 months you will be notified after you submit your application that your banked scores will be used. If the tests were taken more than 6 months ago you will be notified that they will need to complete the test(s) again. I hope this helps. Kind Regards Yvonne

I've asked this question and have been told that they will only be considering offering the o rade jobs. im waiting until tomorrow and then will be applying. An O grade hob would mean a pay decrease for me so woukd not consider it.

Was this the tax academy who advised this?

Disappointing they won't be offering HO roles to some of those who missed out on TSP. The full process of the TSP and the AC is more challenging than the normal HO job process so a number of us have performed well enough already to justify an HO job IMO.

below is the reply
We are only able to hopefully offer O Band posts for Tax Posts. We won't be offering HO posts
You will need to apply for any other posts
Thanks

The application process for the Compliance Caseworker roles won't be too bad for those who have applied for TSP. Only one competence for Making Effective Decisions has to be completed and with your verbal and numerical reasoning test results banked, all that you'll need to repeat is the Situational Judgement Test.
