Massive congrats to everyone who was successful! What a brilliant achievement  Was just wondering if anyone knew if a Band O job was an AO or EO or if it something completely different? Apologies if this has already been asked before I couldn’t find it!

Not sure if anyone replied to you as yet Leo, but Band O is Officer/EO post

There's no contractual progression. The only pay increase you'll get is the annual pay award, if there is one, which has been around 1% the last few years. Before that it was nothing for a few years so no increases at all. The pay award is normally announced in June and backdated to April.

Thanks for the info Mallet  Wow, that's not good. Call me stupid but what's the point in listing jobs with min and max salary when you never progress up the scale to the salary maximum. :frown:

You can progress up it. Just very slowly. Not helped by the public sector pay freeze/cap. We've either had zero or 1% since 2010. That's austerity for you. There's talk of the cap being lifted this year, but we'll probably be last. The public actually like nurses, police, firefighters and teachers so they'll probably get it first. You'll never see a public protest demanding higher wages for tax inspectors 😂

There has been talk of introducing spot pay rather than a range. I think they've already done it for AA/AO grades. For all the other grades they've been trying to narrow the ranges, presumably to make a transition to spot pay easier.

Once again thanks for the insight info Mallet  I'm currently in the EO2 grade in Northern Ireland Civil Service but I'm also on reserve list for Band O posts in Belfast following the outcome of the online interview for TSP 2018. So basically I'm in two minds as what should I do if they offer me a post in HMRC. I know that money is not everything but even with public service pay freeze, staff in NICS have always moved up the payscales for their grades.

Thank goodness for that! Provisional offer received! Fingers crossed I get Leeds

Anyone else successful from 6th/7th March Lincoln?

Yes! I was 😊

I’m bowing out, of TSP and HMRC. I was unsuccessful at the final hurdle but tbh, I don’t think my heart was in it - I’d already decided that desk jobs weren’t for me and accepted another uniformed Home Office role.

Having been through the process with you all, I can only tip my hat and respect your tenacity. Massive well done to those that made it and commiserations to those who made it into the top 4% for AC but no further. I know many of you Willy try again and succeed next year.

Adios amigos, it’s been emotional. 👮

I was there on those dates but Red Group! Don’t think I chatted much to anyone in Yellow though

It looks like we are following a similar timeframe to TSP17. Does anyone know at what point in May they got locations confirmed? Just thought it might give an indication when we might hear.

Hiya!! I was... thank you!! How did you get on?? Xxx

not so lucky as you I'm afraid. on reserve list so going to give it a shot next year. really pleased for you. well done.

Congratulations to everyone who's been successful, I hope you get the locations you need.
Commiserations to those who have been unsuccessful, if you want to try for TSP19 your AC feedback should help you. A couple of people on my course got through on their second/third attempt.
Good luck to everyone who is on the TSP reserve list, there's still chance that you'll get an offer at the location of your choice.

Thanks Xolo, what I meant was a pay progression within your grade. For me moving from Band O pay to HO pay will be called a promotion  I work in NICS and, subject to satisfactory performance in previous reporting year, you progress up the pay scale for your grade. So for example the EO2 payscale in NICS is currently between approx. 24k to 26k with 5 payscales within. So basically you move up every year and in approx. 6 years should be sitting at the max (26k) for your grade. Just wanted to know how this works in HMRC as seen some their employees commenting that they been sitting on their minimum payscale for 7 years or more.

As alluded to, there's a pay freeze just now so no progression through min to max. 1% is all we've had for a number of years. I entered in 2008 as an AA and sure the first year was only pay bump I got, was on my minimum (plus the 1% etc) as an AO, EO and HO.

I'm Leeds as only location (I had Newcastle too but have emailed and asked if I could only be considered for Leeds) will they honour that at this point or am I too late?

Have in previous years, I'm going to send an email on Tuesday to ask to update my location preferences - I've put several but I want to change the order.
