Do I have a chance of getting into Cambridge for NatSci with A*A*AA?

Those are my predicted grades for A level. A* for maths and further maths and A for physics and chemistry.
Yes, though grades are not the only thing that the admissions tutors will consider.

Of course, I understand. But are these grades an okay start?
They don't place too much impetus on predicted grades. Say if you had better maths ums, admissions test score and interview than someone with 4A* predictions then of course you would be a stronger candidate.

You meet the entry requirements, so you certainly have a chance. Cambridge know that predicted grades can be fairly unreliable, so any AS's you've done, the admissions test and the interview will be more important.

The standard offer for NatSci is A*A*A, which you are predicted to exceed. So, yes, you have a chance of getting into Cambridge.

The point of exam grades is to allow employers, universities, and any other interested parties to compare graduates (of schools, colleges, and universities alike) with one another, without having to expend significant resources of their own. They are, of course, not perfect, but for most organisations they suffice well.

Cambridge, on the other hand, has the resources to assess candidates differently. They have the ability to interview every applicant and see them and their academic interests in a way that most other universities simply cannot afford. So whilst your grades will be important to Cambridge, you should not neglect the other parts of your application.

But the simple answer to your question is yes: those predictions would allow you to consider Cambridge NatSci (but don't fall into the trap of feeling that they obligate you to apply - it's not for everyone, and if you'd rather go somewhere else, that is what you should do!).

Just a quick correction - the standard Cambridge NatSci offer is A*A*A, so the OP is predicted to meet, not exceed, that offer.

Oh I see. I have 5 maths modules with UMS above 90 and 83 UMS in FP1. Is that acceptable? I've heard that below 90 is not good.

And do I only get offered the test if I have an interview, or is it the other way around?

Thank you very much! This is very helpful as I am a little lost on the process. I understand what you are saying: I should work hard on my personal statement, interview and admissions test too. I would love to go to Cambridge, so I will apply, I think.

Thanks! I thought that was a bit off from what I'd read on their website. I shouldn't get my hopes too high but still be hopeful.

Yeah if you have at least low 90s average you'll definitely get called to interview.

I'd add their predictions only technically (perhaps begrudgingly) meet the offer, rather than desirably. No A* sci predictions, yet taking 2 such A-Levels. But A*A* for M/FM still better here than for Arts.

Even with my 83 UMS in FP1?

Yeah what did you get in the other modules? I've got an 82 in c1 lol.

I got 90 or above in: C1, C2, D1, M1, S1. FP1 is my lowest. Miraculously, D1 ended my best at 98 UMS. I don't know how it happened. M1 was 96 and I can't remember the others.

What can I do now to strengthen my application?

Hmm, I see. So I should work on my interview skills and my personal statement a lot. And prepare well for the admissions test.

Ah yes, of course - I've edited my original post; thanks for pointing that out!

These exact 4 grades are the conditions on my son's conditional offer
