Vitamins

I've been taking multivitamins quite recently but it's been turning my urine neon yellow! I've been looking on the internet and its because i have too much vitamin b in my body. Some places say that having too much vitamin b is bad for your body because it makes your kidneys work too hard but some sites say it's ok. Does anyone know?

Many thanks

are you taking omega 3? at all
Bloody vitamins. Mine made me throw up!

Anyway, taking the normal amount a day shouldn't give you too much unless you're getting an abnormal amount of vitamin B some other way...
That happened to me aswell
I stopped taking them, I didnt really like having glow in the dark wee wee.

You need to drink more water if they are making your pee neon. Happens to me too. Drinking more water helps the kidneys anyway and is always good. It should dilute your pee a bit.

They make me throw up when I take them on an empty stomach (same thing happens with coffee!)

What vitamins are you taking?! Try Basset's Soft and Chewy Multivitamins. They taste delicious (according to the box) and (possibly) make a small, positive difference in your general well-being. Either way, they've never made me throw up/feel sick/turned my urine yellow.

Every article in the paper I've read about vitamin supplements talks of how useless they are.

are they really?

They aren't useless. How much vitamin C is in the one you take? Your body can only absorb what it needs, and excretes the rest through urine, often turning it a funny colour.

I take a kids multiviatmin (I'm small) and haven't had any problems- plus they taste good

I take multivitamins, started last week

From what you're all saying - makes you puke, neon pee etc. - Do you think its possible that I've generated tonsilitus in the last week because I started taking multivitamins?

I was diagnosed by a doctor today, but I've had a sore throat since last wednesday and I started taking the vitamins last monday... Do you think there could be a link?

I would help you but I thought that multi-vitamins did everyone a world of good! :p:
.... Obviously not.
Have a look at the back of your Vitimins. If they contain more that 100% of your RDA of Vitamin B I would stop taking them.
I don't eat meat so I need lots of B vitamins, especially B12.
I doubt the tonsilitus is from vitamins, more likely coincidence!!
I just threw up because I took them when I got up so it was on an empty stomach. I take them before bed now, zinc (for my awfully bitten weak nails) and multivitamins

haha, thought so... But just in case I didn't take them this morning
You shouldn't run into any problems taking too much vitamin B within reason.
If you have no medical requirements for having them then with a proper well balanced diet multivitamins are not needed. Ever.

Yes Vitamin B "something" does indeed turn your urine lumey!
At first I didn't believe it but someone told me that it does so we did it in biology for a laugh.

This whole "things that do weird stuff to your urine" period. My favorites are beetroot and asparagus.

Haha! This has been a moment of enlightenment for me, I had to give a urine sample and it was neon yellow and I take a berocca tablet every day (which has loads of B vitamns haha)

I must drink more water :s-smilie:

Yeh it's simply a b vitamin coming out because you body doesn't need that much

It won't have any effect on your kidneys so don't worry about that.

I wouldn't stop taking them as theres no need to

You get vitamin b from plenty of other things such as milk so that might be why your body doesn't need anymore

I can't believe how many of you take vitamins!

Although I used to take vitamin C but stopped now i'm doing nutrition in uni.
Like other people have said you don't need suplements if you eat the right foods that already provide these vitamins.
Get your 5-a-day!

I read somewhere that it has been shown that taking Vit-b12 supplements can actually increase your deficiency. Which is not good! so its best to try and eat food which contain it;

For Vit-B12: eat meat, dairy products and eggs

If you DON'T eat dairy products/ meat: you can buy fortified foods with B12 in it.
Such as: veggieburgers, soya milks, vegetables, sunflower margarines and breakfast cereals.
