YAY you've made a grow your grades blog!! :tong: Gunna be subbing to this :h:

[QUOTE="Airmed;73803994"]

Year 3: 2016/17
Semester One:

Transatlantic Relations: 78% (side note: I was horribly ill during the essay component. Submitted in mitigating circumstances as my essay mark was a 3rd class, pretty crap for me. Uni rejected my circumstances. I got 86% in the exam, which pulled my overall mark up amazingly.)

Theorising Politics: 82%

Semester Two:

EU Politics and Simulation: 86%

Comparative Politics in Ireland: 78% (side note 2: I was also ill during the exam part of this module. I didn’t put in circumstances. I don't like my uni, obviously).

Total grade: high 2:1, again just escaping that first. This year counts for 50% of my total degree classification.

I'm so confused about this - if you've got all 70s and 80s shouldn't you be on a first? Isn't anything over 70 a first?

The grading at my uni is weird. I've had to basically translate it since we are marked odd. Our papers are marked out of 23 but graded with letters, not percentages.

Basically, A1 (23 marks) - A5 (19 marks) is a first.
B1 (18 marks) -B3 (16 marks) is a 2:1.
C1 (15 marks) -C3 (13 marks) is a 2:2

But when I convert it:

69% is a B3
78% is a B1
82% is an A5
86% is an A4

I have no clue why Dundee mark like this, and it is really fricking confusing, tbh

Uhhh... :getmecoat:

So, I became ill on Monday night (thanks, half tub of ice cream). So spent most of Tuesday in bed, in pain. Did a bit of light reading (my modules' handbooks, just to get an idea of the rest of the semester), and had to cancel going to the archives.

Yesterday (Wednesday), I went to the gym (was meant to on Tuesday, but you know, dying). Bumped into the SO afterwards so we had a quick, unplanned lunch together. Went back home and did some note tidying. Then I socialised () with the SO's friends.

To do:

- Still feeling a bit rough, so I'm not going to the library today. Staying at home to make Foucault notes for tomorrow's tutorial (I prefer to do them the day before so fresh in the mind): STARTED
- Draft rough email to send out to BIC contacts in the Scottish Gov:
- Once more, constantly refresh my emails to see if the CS will get back to me about Fast Pass and the possibility of skipping part of the Fast Stream application: ONGOING
- check EU security reading list: DONE. Have the necessary articles etc to do the readings on Saturday and Sunday for class on Monday.
- Start compiling a list of survey questions for my disso: ONGOING
- Rough bibliography for disso: ONGOING

It seems to be even more complicated...?
Apparently a 1st requires:
"grades at A3 or above in at least 50% of total assessment
grades at B3 or above in at least 75% of total assessment
grades at C3 or above in 100% of total assessment"

https://www.dundee.ac.uk/registry/exams/assessmentscales/

WTF...

Their intranet thingy doesn't have a current status report saying "Congrats, you're on a 1st, girlfriend!" then?

Please don't ask me why I am doing this. It is just happening.

Welcome to my (sort-of) study blog!

This is it. The big one. My final year. :awesome:

For those who don’t know me, or have forgotten about me, I’m Airmed (call me Cesca), and I am 4th year Politics undergrad at the University of Dundee. Why am I making this blog? Well, it’s already WEEK TWO of my classes, I am panicking like always, and you know what?

I really want a damn first class honours, lads. Like, I desperately want it. And my uni does not accept the offerings of one’s soul as payment for one, (I checked), so it looks like working my arse off is Plan B.(I mean, I would be happy with a 2:1, but **** you, perfectionism, I dream of a first.)

Quick things to know about me: I am obsessed with tea, Ireland, Natalie Dormer, the Tudors, swearing, more tea, Harry Potter. I am a stubborn little cow who spends far too much time procrastinating and drinking away my *****y thoughts with tea. I also have some crap mental health background stuff, which there is no need to go into here as anyone who will read this will probably know what I am on about here.

So, like, I said, my degree is single honours Politics. Do I enjoy my degree? Not really, but I don’t want to bore you with that. I will try and update this as much as I can remember, and do ask questions if you want!

Academic background so far:

I wish you good luck in that last year and I pray for your 1st Hon. degree coming

Briefly did American politics in my Devolution module in Year 2 and the transatlantic module in Year 3 was a look at the USA-EU relationship (which are now both defunct modules). Dundee does not have any USA-only modules.

22/9:

Woke up at 7.30 because Fridays have the dreaded 9am tutorial. Sigh.

It was Surveillance, and we discussed Foucault and panopticism. This lead onto a discussion about CCTV footage in schools; did you know that some schools in the UK have up to 200 CCTV cameras installed outside and inside the premises? Please tell me I am not the only one that finds that crazy.

Returned home, planning to go to the gym (my gym is about a 20 minute walk away from my flat) and very randomly, while eating my, lunch I decided to do the Couch to 5k Challenge (C25K). So I downloaded the app on my phone, headed out to the local park (5 minute walk from my flat) and I have started it! :dumbells: I am still going to go the gym (I do love my spin classes and I want to try pilates in the next few weeks!) but I think this will be a good challenge for me.

This weekend is going to be busy alright! And next week too!

- The SO is coming over this evening after his work. He's not feeling too great so we're just going to watch Jessica Jones and bicker as always.

- Tomorrow is the Humanities Soc's Welcome BBQ and since the SO is a General Committee Member, he must attend. I am going with him, most likely.

- Then, on Sunday, I am meeting up with 2 of his friends for coffee and begged help over what to get him for his 22nd birthday (Thursday coming). Gym also on Sunday, and reading for class.

- Tuesday night: the History Soc are doing a pub quiz. The SO holds 2 positions on the committee (including VP) so he has to attend. But on the same night, the Humanities Soc are doing their gaudie night and he HAS to go to that too, to be a parent (or as he dubs it, someone's alcohol auntie). Cautiously, since the HumSoc need more 'parents' for the Freshers, I have volunteered my services. So I may be out on Tuesday night. That doesn't bother me though, as I have no class on Wednesday or Thursday, so I have loads of time to do uni work and start prepping essay plans.

- Thursday 28th is the SO's birthday, and we are trying to arrange something for that. We will probably do something on our own and then something with his friends. It may end up being a joint birthday thing with his friends, as it is my 21st birthday on the 8th October (2 weeks from Sunday). Who knows, lads? Who knows?

Listen to her. She tells the truth!
