Applications have opened early this year for the SDIP, apply here!

https://www.faststream.gov.uk/summer-diversity-internship-programme/

Any questions, please ask: I completed the SDIP over the summer, and will be applying for the Fast Stream!

Hi - how did you find your time on the SDIP? Did you obtain the Fast Pass, if so, how did you get it?

Also, are there any good books on the Situational Judgement test out there?

Hi!

I found my time on the SDIP to be really rewarding. It was challenging and busy; the work I did was not simple busy work. I really did feel part of the team and felt like an actual civil servant.

I'm still waiting to hear about the Fast pass. Was meant to this week but no word. I'm not surprised. They can be a bit disorganised.

I wouldn't know about books as I never used any! I didn't prep at all for the situational tests.

Which department were you in? Is it true that SDIP interns get a tour of No 10/the MI5/6 buildings? (someone told me this when they were trying to sell it to me!)

I was in the Scottish Government.

Ok, I'm afraid to say that was not true for this year. We got offered a tour of the Commons and Lords. Tbh, I have never heard of any SDIP interns getting tours of No 10, MI5 or MI6 (simply for security reason alone, ofc).

You can get interns working in the Cabinet Office and Treasury, hence that :h:

Hello, Airmed! I just got a quick question about the Civil Service Fast Stream. Say if I wish to pursue a career in the Civil Service Fast Stream upon my graduation from the university. Would I need to apply a year or two years in advance? I am currently in my 3rd year at uni but I am doing a four-year degree. Many thanks!

Thanks for setting up this group! I applied about a week ago and am really excited to hear back since it sounds like an amazing opportunity  When you took part in this scheme, what did your responsibilities involve and is it possible to prepare for these roles ahead of time? Also, as I'm looking into HR roles, is it possible to specialise during the internship or is that only available in the graduate scheme? Thanks again

Hi!

I was working in one of the education units in the Scottish Government, and tbh, there was no way in hell that I could have prepared! I had my own project, analysing certain schemes for crucial policy work. Specialising depends on your line manager and the department you are in, so I would not have your hopes up.

what depatrment did you do your internship in? Im really interested in GSR
How was getting in? I’m in first year and currently in the process of testing for the early internship. I jus finished the situational judgement test. Have to say it was a little challenging, but i sat and did it and then reviewed it with my bf.
I just wanted to ask how you found the whole recruitment process overall. And did you do anything particular to stand out? Thanks for sharing x

hi, how did you find the process? im very nervous about the tests? is there any specific way you prepared?

You said you had your placement in Scotland so maybe you can help, I was just checking I'm eligible as it says you have to be in your final 2 years of uni, does that mean when you apply, or after the summer
i go to uni in scotland, so my degree is 4 years, so i'm currently in my 2nd year, but after the program would be in my final 2 years if that makes sense, I was wondering if you were in a similar position

Hello

Congrats on completing the SDIP!

Could you perhaps outline the timeframe of the application and selection process? For example which month did you apply in, how long until you got your results back, you did the telephone/personal interview in etc, when you got accepted, training and the duration of the internship etc.

Just because I live and study in Ireland and I'd have to fly in if I get to do any personal interviews etc  I applied for the programme weeks ago and did the situational judgement test, waiting for a word back

Hey!

So the process is slow, tbh. A lot of waiting. I didn't do any preparation except the practice questions, so I can't help much there.

No, you would need to be in 3rd or 4th year (I go to uni in Scotland too!)

Getting into the SDIP is a challenge, I won't lie. Apparently 3500 of us applied last year, and only around 35-360 got places.

I had very strong examples, I think, which made me stand out. Don't underestimate part time jobs or volunteering!

Hi!

So last year, it did not open until October iirc. It is a very long process. My phone interview was not until April! Below is a screenshot of my portal and dates when I completed or heard back about things.

There are no face to face interviews; it is just a telephone interview! So, if you are from Ireland and get offered a placement, it would most likely be in Belfast.
Has anyone heard back post video interview yet?

Just a question about the earlier stages - how many tests did you complete? I can only access one so I assume that I failed it and didn't progress to the next one? Thanks!

Uh, I think it was only one, but it took a while for it to be marked.
