I'm intending to study history in 2018 with a view to do a PCGE in Secondary education after I've finished my undergraduate course. I was wondering if any current or former SHU student would be able to share their experiences about the course and university

I'm just going to tag the Hallam official rep to see if they can answer your questions. Sheffield Hallam University, do either of your pair of Student reps have any knowledge of History.

Hi KGTreacher, I just got in touch with a previous History student and this is what she said:

So the course was really varied – I really enjoyed how, especially in years 2 and 3, you were able to specialise in certain areas if you wanted to. The academics are approachable, they’re pretty great if you want any further challenge or guidance too. The library was a great resource when writing essays because all the course books were in there but if you wanted a book to be ‘ordered in’ from another university that was a really simple process. Hallam itself in terms of support is second to none, the disability support team are excellent and helped me loads – also city campus, where history is based, is obviously really good because of how close it is to the city centre and train station (really good transport links etc.)

Let me know if you have any more questions,

    Hey!

Unfortunately I don't study history so I can't tell you very much about the course, but I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the uni.

Sheffield Hallam is such a welcoming place. It's a big university with lots of students, meaning that there are many opportunities to get involved with exciting events, societies and sports, volunteering, and lots of other activities in the city and at the uni. Is there anything in particular you'd like to get involved with when you get here? There are also many support services available in order to help you settle in and thrive here, and the city of Sheffield is just great.

Anything else more specific you want to know?

    Ellie
