Australian Universities Applicants 2018

Hi :wavey: Planning on applying to Australian Universities?

This is the place for you to ask questions and socialise in general  whether you are looking to apply for first semester entry in the Jan/Feb or second semester entry in July you are welcome in this thread :woo:

Some questions to start with :

Which universities are you applying to in Australia?

What course(s) are you applying for?

What are your predicted grades/achieved grades and in which subjects?

Why are you applying to Australian universities?

Other university choices in other countries?

Personally I had conditional offers from the University of Melbourne, Australian National University and University of New South Wales, so if there is any questions about my personal experiences with the admissions process etc... I'll be happy to help

Hi, I'm planning to apply for an undergraduate degree in business in Australia in either Sydney or Melbourne for semester 2. I'm an international student and got 4A's and 1C in my A-levels, I have a lot of extra-curriculars, student government, and sports achievements as well. What type of scholarship could I get ? I know the full tuition ones are really competitive and out of reach, a local education agent told me he could get me a 25% scholarship at La-trobe, but do you think I could get a 50% scholarship in the university of Melbourne or Deakin university or any other ? Also, will a high IELTS score like an 8.5-9 aid my application or is it just a visa requirement and the minimum will also do ?

This is quite subjective,it is better to work with your agent to figure out the options available to you. I was chatting with an agent yesterday about scholarships in Australia and he was mentioning about the scholarship in top universities being really competitive and that I have roughly a 30% chance of getting it there. It's easier if you apply for a university that is ranked lower.(200-300) I will recommend you to apply for the guaranteed scholarship in the university you think you can secure the scholarship and only go for the top university scholarship if money isn't a huge issue for you,in case you don't get the scholarship. Not sure about IELTS but I don't really think that factors in a lot.

Hiya, I am a non-UK applicant to Australia universities, nice to meet ya.

Which universities are you applying to in Australia?
The University of Western Australia, Adelaide University, Newcastle University (July 2018)

What course(s) are you applying for?
Year 2 Transfer to Bachelor of Science (major undecided)

What are your predicted grades/achieved grades and in which subjects?
A Levels: BCC/B University year 1 first semester: B average

Why are you applying to Australian universities?
Thinking of pulling up my Gpa for graduate medicine/PhD research, having more time to find out my interests to pursue med or research in the future and specifically choosing the above universities because it's cheap (finances are an issue for me as I am thinking of continuing graduate school overseas) while having a level of prestige so I can work in Australia upon graduation if I don't get in grad school. In addition, I have friends in University of Western Australia and Newcastle!

Other university choices in other countries?
Might be considering UK to do biomedical science, but less likely since it's easier for me to transfer credits to universities in Australia.

Hello!

i am an international student who has applied to the Bachelor of Dental Science at the University of Queensland, to start in Semester 1 2020. I currently have a Singapore Polytechnic diploma in Biomedical Science with a GPA of 3.833.

I have been informed that my application has been unsuccessful as the ‘'academic rank assigned on the basis of my diploma results is not high enough for admission' and when I clarified further, the admissions team just kept saying I will be unable to achieve the required rank for the Bachelor of Dental Science on the basis of the Diploma study. I don't understand as I'm not sure if it means my diploma is not recognised as an international qualification for UQ or that my diploma GPA does not meet the entry requirements? Does anyone know the minimum cumulative GPA required for BDS??

Thank you

3.8 seems like a competitive gpa into any programme in Aus,might probably be more on the recognition of the diploma. I could be wrong since UQ traditionally has extremely high requirements for internationals even for other pathways like the A levels or IB(42) which could easily secure offers in top UK universities.Did you apply through an agent? If not,you should give either IDP or AUG a call and ask them for assistance, since it's free and they help to process applications.
