HELP: Access to Leeds Form

Hi there..

I'm applying for Psychology at the Uni of Leeds, I've already got a conditional offer of AAB but I'd like this offer lowered and I heard of an "Access to Leeds" scheme. I then got the forms from my careers advisor and luckily I am eligible for it. There's a bit on the form that I'm stuck with which I'm hoping one of you can help me with?

There's about a third of a page to write, I think about 3 paragraphs will suffice and it says:

"Please use this space to tell us about yourself, why you would like to study at the University of Leeds, what interests you about the subject you want to study and any additional factors you would like the admissions tutor to take into account with your application."

So can anyone give me any pointers of what to write?

Thanks!

Well one point to think about is if you've visited the university yet, definately put it down in writing saying how much you enjoyed the visit. If you sound really enthusiastic about the uni, it may make for more of a positive reading.

Any psychology hobbies you have (Reading in your own time, been to any talks by psychologists? I went to one by Philip Zimbardo a year ago - his stanford prison experiement stuff)

Just sound enthusiastic and interesting and I'm sure you'll be fine

Sorry I can't give any specific hints for the access scheme, I never did it myself

How do you gain eligibility for Access to Leeds?

Thanks! I got an offer..need BBB now instead of AAB

To be eligible students need to meet two or more of the following criteria:

* Be in receipt of an Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) of £20 or £30 a week
* Be in the first generation of immediate family to apply to Higher Education
* Attend a school which achieved less than 45% 5 A to C passes (including English & Maths) at GCSE in 2006
* Only option is to attend one of their local universities
* Studies disrupted by circumstances in their personal, social or domestic lives
* In Public Care

Mmmm, I'm the first in my family to go to higher education,
I used to get EMA in year 12, but my mums back in full time work now.
Would disrupted circumstances count as me not currently having a biology teacher? Started with two, but one is gone for like 4 months getting married, and the other has gone "travelling" and therefore I will be without one for the majority of the year

^ maybe..don't you have a careers adviser in college/6th form that can help? they know all the details.

there's a bit you have to get written from your referee..s/he could include that.

Alright cool, I applied for access to leeds, how long did it take for them to get back to you? and how did you know if you were accepted for it, how do they contact you? or do you just check track and the offer changed?
(I already had my offer, but wanted it lowered)

Well they got back to me quite quick, I applied just before Christmas holidays and I got a letter in the first week of the new year. And yeah, also my track said that the conditions of my offer has changed and refer to the letter sent by the uni. I also had an offer and just wanted it lowered.
I just rang them and they told me I'll get another letter telling me when I have to attend their 2 day course. It'll be later around March/April I think.

I applied for the access to leeds scheme on January 15th (after having already recieved an offer). Got the letter in the post today, lowered to BBC with a 'pass in the access to leeds scheme'.
Cheers mozfadz

It says that the deadline was 15th January, though my head of year said that as I already had my offer, it was just an additional thing and wouldn't matter if it reachered there a day or 2 late.
On the site it says if you wish to apply after the deadline to contact Richard Kemp, so I guess it is possible

Aww that's cool, glad to be of help  lol. See you there next year  lol

Yeah, you can apply after you've submitted your form or got your offer. It just says that so you can avoid the rush and stuff.
