Can I apply for means tested maintenance loan after i receive first instalment?

Hi.

When I applied for my loan, I applied for the maximum amount that didn't require my parents' financial information as I thought I wouldn't need it and wanted to keep my debt as low as possible.

However, I received my first portion of my loan last week and while budgeting, have realised that my parents will not be able to support me financially as much as I thought they would have due to younger siblings. I was wondering if there was a way I could contact student finance and apply for the means-tested portion too in order to take some strain off my family or if it's possible to do so after I've already received the first instalment.

You still apply to be means tested by completing a household income application for 2017/2018 academic year and your parents would need to complete a PFF2 form with their 2015 to 2016 tax year details, both would need to be completed on paper form once we receive you application will be means tested.

The current processing time is 21 working days.

Once my application gets processed, will I get an interim loan payment until my next installments or will it just be that those 2 payments get increased?

Hi rzs

You will get your basic loan payment until it has been reassessed and any backdated payments will be arranged and paid to you and your last two payments will be amended to the higher amount.
