Warwick Interview - English

I got a letter this morning inviting me for interview at Warwick in Feburary. Does anyone know the structure of the interviews? Are they generally like Oxbridge interviews or are they more relaxed?

Got mine too!

A friend who had an interview last year said that it was really relatively informal (yay!) - but my Cambridge interview wasn't scarily formal anyway, so hopefully it'll be fine. It'll be nice to meet other candidates, anyway.

do you know what percentage of people get interviews?

I think they interview 20% of applicants or something.

I have an interview Feb 1st also - I'll probably see some of you there

It says in the prospectus that they interview most applicants for English.

We're Literature students, we cannot comprehend stats at all and therefore fear them.

Never were truer words spoken...
As far as I hear, they're supposed to be quite relaxed.

A discussion of literature, mainly your PS.

Enjoy it.

My personal experience is that it was an informal, easy interview compared with Oxbridge and UCL.

There were no poems / texts to analyse, in fact the most strenuous exercise you'll encounter is having to go to the 5th floor of the humanities building as the lifts are temperamental. Expect tea, coffee and biscuits if the layout is anything like last year - they try to make it informal.

There is also a sample lecture in the Arts Centre (Romeo and Juliet film comparison last time) and some other talks to enjoy on the day.

The stats they gave us were that about 30 people apply for each place, although I'm not convinced about that.
I got invited to the interview date on Feb 1st as well, probably will see some of you lot around

Good luck to all of you on that day

Also, make sure you go to any talk by Thomas Docherty. You'll be certain to have him for optional theory lectures in your first year if you decide to go to Warwick, so it'll be an ideal way to experience his style and see if you like it.

I remember him from the open day English department presentation! He was the one that made me so impressed with Warwick's English department in the first place

Ok, great. Thank you! My interview's also on 1st Feb., so I'm sure I'll see some of you there!
Ouch...30 per place?! Aren't those worse odds than Oxbridge? Eeeee!

I heard that this year they have two interview dates which are the 1st of February and the 29th of February!

I haven't heard back from them yet so I'm really nervous and just want to know if I have one!! The wait is killing me!

Yes they are, but there are other things to consider. Firstly, almost everybody who gets an offer from Oxbridge will accept it, while that isn't true of many other universities. If most people have 5 choices (ignoring the rejections), then it really depends on whether Warwick is their top choice. Secondly, Oxbridge has such a reputation that many people don't even apply in the first place; they get the grades, perhaps, but are intimidated and don't believe they stand a chance, while this stigma isn't attached to other excellent universities.

I've heard that it's about 15 apps per place atm. I don't think it can be 30.
