None of those problem solving thingies.

How did you feel b4/after your interview?
B4=dumb After=dumber and unworthy

How did your interviews go?
Went quicker than I expected. I did something really stupid (which I cannot bear to say >_<) in my general but it wasn't in terms of saying a wrong answer or anything like that. One of my subject interviews I really enjoyed, I thought it went well and I tried my best. The second, not so much.

What questions were u asked?
My general one remained general right until the very end, where I was asked about my opinion on some legal things.

How did you feel b4/after your interview?
Nerves came and went. After my first interview I felt slightly unsure, after the second one I was happy, and the third one just really irritated me. I felt like I messed it up.

What is your college like?
I really like it, like the poster above it reminded me of London, which is a good thing.

How did the Interviewers respond?
The first two were really nice. The third one was patronising and pushy - I saw the girls before me look traumatised. He was really melodramatic and would contradict everything I said which - wasn't a bad thing, but combined with the way he was made it so intimidating. O_O

I sat outside the room for about 15 minutes thinking 'I found the right door, it's fine, all ok etc' After a while the interveiwer came out muttering 'where is she' and seemed shocked to see me just sitting outside. There was a sign on the door that said 'Please Knock'. DOH!

That was years ago now, and I got in. They expect to meet odd/nervous people. They also interview plenty of people with Aspergers - that can get very interesting!

Reply 92

My interviewer was telling me about the course and why it is so good etc...

"Well actually our course is narrow but what we do, we do really well. It's actually quite.............. cool. What we do is cool."

This was the director of studies, a reverend, telling me how cool his course was. I have never tried so hard not to piss myself...

Nicest guy in the world though...

How did your interviews go?
I felt that they went well, it's hard to tell though.
What questions were u asked?
Questions about stuff that I'd put on my statement relating to Geography, climate change etc.
How did you feel b4/after your interview?
Very nervous before. After I felt quite confident that I'd done well but still nervous. The more I think about it the more I think of things I wished I'd said.
What is your college like?
Really nice, in the centre of the nice part of Cambridge, next to loads of other nice colleges, and really close to the Geography department! For me it's a goldilocks college (not too big, not too small...)
How did the Interviewers respond?
Both watched me intently while I was talking, the first one would every so often write very short notes after I'd said something (usually something good:smile: ), so I used that as a gauge of whether I had responded well to questions.
The second interviewer was really friendly and smiled and even laughed at something I said (which was intended to be funny). He said it had been a real pleasure meeting me, but I bet he says that to everyone!

How did your interviews go?
The first one was pretty dire. It was based on some sources that I'd had 2 hours to study and which really shouldn't have been that difficult, but I was in such a panic that I waffled incoherently. The second one was better and I did have one or two interesting discussions but I certainly did not shine. It was almost an anti-climax; I was ready for vicious grilling and instead the style was very relaxed, which sort of caught me by surprise.

What questions were u asked?
Nothing random (which was slightly disappointing - this was what I had been looking forward to!) In the first interview I just had some set questions on pre-studied sources and there was no real discussion at all. The interviewer just waited for me to finish speaking and then moved on, which I found a bit disconcerting. The second one, which wasn't supposed to be 'general', nevertheless included a lot of questions about my extra-curricular activites, and because I hadn't been expecting it I didn't respond very well. There was some discussion of my essays but I felt as though I was criticising my essay more than he was, digging myself steadily into a hole.
Oh yes, and at one point I was asked about my school and embarrassingly could not remember the year in which it was founded. I was also asked what I thought of the Sainsbury's building in Birmingham, which completely freaked me out...I then realised he meant Selfridges but I must have looked very confused for a while there.

How did you feel b4/after your interview?
Petrified before the first one but much more relaxed during the second one. I felt strangely detached in fact. It was weird.

What is your college like?
Gorgeous, but there's no point in setting my heart on it when I've so blatantly not managed to get in.

How did the Interviewers respond?
Both were extremely nice, although my football team was criticised by the second interviewer ('It seems that we disagree already,' he said after my optimistic assessment of West Brom's promotion chances.) (How on earth did we get on to talking about football????) I did feel that both were somewhat disappointed with me however.

Hi everyone. I had two interviews at cambridge several weeks ago. My first one was very academic with no formalities. The interviewer asked me to summarise an article i had been given beforehand and when i had finished he said i had preempted most of the questions he was going to ask. He also started smiling at this point. By the end of the interview he had a big smile on is face. I just wanted to know if this happened to someone else? Is it a good or just the guy being polite? In the second interview the interviewer said he liked my marks very much. At the end he said something about me having to put on my coat as he didn't want a potential student to catch a cold. Am I reading too much into it?

Reply 97

Probably. Tutors are going to be as nice as possible to prospective candidates to make them at ease therefore they can perform as well as possible and tutors can distinguish which people they want. Seriously, it's not that simple.

Reply 98

But, it's hardly a bad sign

All you can do now is wait for the letter.... :p:

I don't see the point of this thread. No-one can give you an ego-boost; how is anyone supposed to have a clue?
