In a letter from my preference college, it said that they take more notice of your best interview performance rather than your average. Now I doubt that this is really the case, but it should give some comfort to the vast majority of people who think one of their interviews was good and the other was rubbish. Anyone heared anything like this?

That does sound very odd, but think of the interview experiance in the eyes of the interviewer. In reality, everyone is going to have their bad bits (well at least I hope so) , but your best performance is likely to be of more use to them because it gives an indication of your prospective academic potential.

Wow, shows you how little I care about Cambridge that I haven't bothered to visit the forum and fill this in yet...

SPS @ Selwyn

How did your interviews go?
Meh, I dunno. I think they went alright, at least compared to what I've heard from other people in my school.

What questions were u asked?
A lot on Russian and Kenyan history, and a bit on electoral systems

How did you feel b4/after your interview?
Before, I was calm but annoyed that I was wasting a day of school. Afterwards, I was relieved that they were over.

What is your college like?
I don't like it. :\

How did the Interviewers respond?
Seemingly positively.

How did your interviews go?
It's hard to tell! I think the second one was better because I was more relaxed and we had a bit of a debate going whereas the first was more about the interviewers asking me fairly closed science questions and me answering them. There were a few long pauses and silences though in the first though...

What questions were u asked?
Lots of science-based questions initially starting at AS/A2 level and then going further, plus some topical ethical/NHS issues

How did you feel before/after your interview?
Before I thought I was going to be sick! After I was actually quite relieved and surprised that I had actually enjoyed the experience!

What is your college like?
Beautiful and everyone was so friendly that it calmed me down. I have a fierce loyalty to Emma despite the fact that I don't think I'll get in!

How did the Interviewers respond?
They all tried really hard to put me at ease (the first one tried to guess what position I play in netball before I even sat down!) They were all positive and encouraging but I think that's a general theme...

I agree, the Fellows at Emma were really nice. I was the last to be interviewed and when I was waiting at the gates to be picked up, one of the people who interviewed me was on his way out and was all 'Oh gosh, you're still here, do you need a lift anywhere? I could drop you off'. Which I thought was very nice of him. HOPE HE'S NICE ENOUGH TO GET ME INTO EMMA AS WELL:p:

Aw bless, that's really sweet! Poor you for being last though- I was first for one panel and then a little bit later for the second, so at least I wasn't worrying all day! *Fingers crossed for Emma* xxx

How did your interviews go?

First i had my entrance exam, which i thought was at 13.30, turns out i misread the time which was actually 13.00. So there i am sitting in the JCR talking to some current students, when i decide to give my letter a quick glance again. Realizing i was late (it was 13.15 at the time) i began to sprint through the college screaming "%%%%%%%%%%%% I'M LATE FOR MY EXAM!" past a few visitors/scholars, etc. on my way to the exam room. Once i got there the exam wasn't too bad, i was expecting to not be able to answer a single question.

My first interview was just going over my answers, so that was ok.

My second interview wasn't s pleasant. I was interrogated on physics from AS, which i had not looked at since june, so that didn't go so well.

What questions were u asked?

Entrance exam - tricky maths & physics questions

1st interview - nothing really, just asking more q's to do with the exam

2nd interview - why engineering? and then "tell me about equations of motion/specific heat capacity/ specific latent heat/ momentum/ etc."

How did you feel b4/after your interview?

before - relaxed as i went in feeling cambridge was a long shot, so there wasn't so much pressure

after - disappointed, knowing that if i had prepared at all i could have given a much better impression in the 2nd interview.

What is your college like?

brilliant, so much more character than all the other unis i've been to

How did the Interviewers respond?

1st interviewer was enthusiastic and encouraging.
2nd was cold, unresponsive, pessimistic.

How did your Interviews go?
Well, I think mine went OK, I only had one and the interviewers seemed pleasant enough.
It wasnt like an interrogation and they did ask more harder Qs that i couldnt answer and i waffled a bit :s-smilie:

What Qs were you asked?
well, they sent a questionnaire on what i had done and for biology it was evolution & stuff like that-they asked about evolution and i dont think they were convinced about that.
They asked about hyperventilating/pH of blood-i answered that one well
Monkey and Hunter question, dilutions, about if u could breathe down a tube 24ft long (no) and about tracheostomies (confused by this time)

How did you feel b4/after interviews
before- bit nervous, after better (that it was over)

Whats your College like
Well i think its good, it was either here or downing

Interviewers
Both seemed friendly and OK
