Essentially, there are two types of theories. Consensus (based on agreement) or conflict (based on disagreement. Functionalism is very much a consensus theory and Marxism and Feminism are both conflict theories.
Functionalism is a very conservative theory and the New Right are v similar. Your main sociologists will be rkid Durkheim and Parsons.
Marxism is a theory based on social class inequality. Karl Marx is hopeful of a communist revolution to overthrow the capitalist bourgeoise. They believe that society serves capitalism.
Feminism advocates for gender equality and will often refer to the patriarchy. They believe that society serves men.
