They are both common nouns, so use lower case.

Mathematics is the name of a subject of study, like geography, physics or history. It is always a common noun unless it forms part of a proper noun, like the title of a book or a film (e.g. How to Learn Mathematics at Secondary School by Archie Meedees, or The Bourne Mathematics)

Capitilising subject names like "mathematics" seems to be a common mistake that students make and I see it a lot in personal statements. This confusion may come from the fact that subjects that happen to be languages should be capitalised e.g.

"I am taking maths and English at school".
